Wyoming Area falls to Lakeland

Josh Balcarel and the Delaware Valley Warriors extended impressive streaks Saturday afternoon.Balcarel ran for at least 98 yards for the seventh straight game, all wins by the Warriors, who also continued runs of postseason success in the process.Delaware Valley&#8217;s 35-14 victory over visiting Hazleton Area in the District 2-6 Class 6A Subregional championship game gave the Warriors three straight district titles. In the last two years, Delaware Valley has also won the subregional, which includes District 4 member Williamsport.While the Warriors move into the state playoffs to face State College, the Cougars conclude their season at 6-6. Hazleton Area had put together a four-game winning streak to reach the final, avenging a loss to Williamsport in the process, but was unable to overturn its earlier result against Delaware Valley.Balcarel carried 24 times for 178 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Zach Scillia accounted for three touchdowns for Delaware Valley.Scillia ran for two touchdowns while hitting 10 of 14 passes for 154 yards and another score.Damon Horton led Hazleton Area with 116 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.The Cougars made it through the first quarter tied at 7-7 and were within a score until the last three seconds of the first half.Delaware Valley opened the scoring on its first possession when Scillia rolled out off play action on fourth-and-one and hit Colin Walters for a 41-yard touchdown.Hazleton Area answered with a nine-play, 70-yard drive that took more than five minutes. Horton scored on a 13-yard run for the tie with 2:11 left in the first quarter.The tie lasted less than three minutes.Scillia hit a wide-open Hunter Klein for 30 yards on third-and-six, then ran it in on third-and-goal from the 5 on the second play of the second quarter.Klein also had two sacks and a fourth-down pass break-up for Delaware Valley.
