St. Lawrence senior Matthew Edkins missed out on the NCAA Championships last season, but he&#8217;s aiming for a return trip this season. And early indications are pointing in that direction.Edkins, a Lake-Lehman grad, was an All-American when he finished eighth in the 3-meter dive as a freshman and was 13th in the 1-meter. As a sophomore, he earned All-America honorable mention by finishing 10th in the 1-meter and 15th in the 3-meter. Last season he was sixth in the 1-meter and seventh in the 3-meter at regionals but failed to advance to the national meet.On Nov. 5, Edkins was named Liberty League Diver of the Week for the second time this season after taking both dives in a 141-65 loss to Rochester Tech on Nov. 3. He&#8217;s unbeaten in both dives in the Saints&#8217; first four meets and he hasn&#8217;t lost in a dual meet since Jan. 29, 2017.&#8220;I&#8217;m still surprised on a weekly basis with how much talent he exudes almost effortlessly,&#8221; second-year diving coach Spencer Beaulieu said. &#8220;Even now in his final year of diving competitively, he is still actively learning new skills and improving immensely.&#8221;Edkins doesn&#8217;t just bring his diving skills to the team according to the coach.&#8220;Matt can win meets and break records all day long when he chooses to, and that&#8217;s great,&#8221; Beaulieu said. &#8220;But his massive value as a leader and role model to the rest of our young team cannot be overlooked.&#8221;Darius Washington (Eastern)The 6-foot-1 senior guard opened the season with the men&#8217;s basketball team in fine style, scoring a team-high 21 points with nine rebounds in an 84-79 victory over Cabrini on Nov. 13.The Holy Redeemer grad is averaging 19.7 points and 8.0 rebounds for the Eagles, who are 2-1 after a 79-74 overtime loss to Webster last Sunday. Washington had 21 points and eight rebounds in the game. He averaged 13.2 points and 5.5 rebounds in 26 games last season.Kyra Wozniak (Kutztown)The junior was named to the PSAC first team last week after a standout season with the field hockey team, the Golden Bears finishing ninth in Division II with a 14-5 record. The Coughlin grad started all 19 games and had 21 goals and three assists for 45 points with eight game-winners.The goals, points and game-winners not only led the team but stood second in the league. Her goals are fourth, her goals per game (1.15) fifth and her points are tied for sixth in NCAA Division II.Lindsey Oremus (St. Joseph&#8217;s)The senior captain wrapped up her cross country career by finishing 20th in a field of 153 runners at the ECAC/IC4A Championships last Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The Dallas grad covered the 3.06-mile course in 17:32 with a mile pace of 5:44. She earned All-ECAC honors for her performance.Oremus competed in 29 races for the Hawks in cross country and was the team&#8217;s top runner in 22 of them, including seven of 12 in championship races.Allie Barber (Bloomsburg)The senior captain was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner&#8217;s Association All-Region women&#8217;s soccer team on Nov. 14. Prior to that, the Pittston Area grad earned All-PSAC first team honors.A speech, language and pathology major, she has a 3.89 GPA and earned Google Cloud All-District first team on Nov. 8. Barber started all 23 games and had six goals and four assists for 16 points with four game-winners, the Huskies finishing 17-3-3 after losing 3-1 to Bridgeport in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals.Lydia Lawson (Elizabethtown)The 5-foot-4 junior wrapped up her season with the women&#8217;s soccer team on Oct. 27, and on Nov. 9 she was playing point guard for the women&#8217;s basketball team.The Holy Redeemer grad had 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 55-54 victory over Mary Washington. She&#8217;s averaging 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds and leads the 3-1 Blue Jays in assists with 16 and steals with 15.Freshman Roni Isenberg, a Berwick grad, made her debut and had 10 points in the Mary Washington game, including the game-winner in the final seconds.John Porter Luksic (Widener)The junior set a school record in the 200-meter breaststroke last Saturday when the Pride men&#8217;s swim team competed in the Franklin &amp; Marshall Invitational. His time was 2:09.89 and he took the B final with his effort.The Dallas grad also had the best time in the 100-meter breaststroke for the team, finishing first in the B final with a 59.49 effort, which is third in the team&#8217;s record book. Widener finished sixth out of 11 teams in the three-day event.Katrina Mikitish (Pace)The senior is a key member of the field hockey team that will take a 17-2 record and a No. 3 seed into the NCAA Division II Tournament, hosting St. Anselm on Sunday. The Pittston Area grad has started all 19 games for the Setters and has two goals and three assists for seven points with a game-winner.She was named to the Northeast-10 Conference third team, reaching the league championship game before falling 1-0 to Assumption on Nov. 13.Bobby Polachek (Fredonia)The 6-foot-4, 215-pound senior forward is in his fourth season playing with the men&#8217;s hockey team, the Blue Devils getting off to a 5-1 overall start and a 3-1 record in the State University of New York Athletic Conference after a 5-4 league victory over Cortland last Saturday.Polachek, from Kingston (Wyoming Seminary), had an assist in the game, his second of the season. He&#8217;s played in 77 games in his career and has 23 goals and 29 assists for 52 points.Rebecca Podskoch (Mercy)The junior defender scored just one goal this season but it was the biggest of the year for the field hockey team because it was the only goal in the conference championship game. The No. 2 Mavericks held off No. 1 seed Molloy 1-0 to win its first-ever East Coast Conference title on Nov. 2.The Wyoming Valley West grad started all 18 games and led the team in minutes played with 1279, Mercy finishing 6-12 on the season.Ruby Mattson (Grove City)The junior was a key performer on the women&#8217;s soccer team that finished 17-4-1 after going 8-0-0 in the Presidents&#8217; Athletic Conference and earned a bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Wolverines defeated Chicago 1-0 on Nov. 10 but were eliminated 1-0 by Centre in the second round Nov. 11.The Dallas grad started all 22 games and had seven goals and four assists for 18 points with two game-winners. She was named to the PAC first team for the second straight year.<style>
