Philly is its own ‘Rocky’ story

<p>If your holiday week has been anything like mine, you&#8217;re probably taking it easy this morning, leafing through your Sunday newspaper and unwinding from a few days of non-stop activity.</p><p>We all need those days of relaxation, so hopefully today is your day.</p><p>The last few days have been filled with food, family, shopping and all those things you&#8217;re supposed to do on the days following Thanksgiving.</p><p>If you got to Black Friday shop, good for you.</p><p>If you had post-Thanksgiving get-togethers for your family and friends, that&#8217;s great.</p><p>Or if the holiday decorating commenced in your household, congratulations on getting started.</p><p>The holiday weekend for me started out with a fantastic meal at Dominick&#8217;s Caf&#233; in Hudson.</p><p>It&#8217;s probably been about two years since my last visit there, so when we were thinking of a local, neighborhood restaurant to go to, it popped into my head as somewhere we hadn&#8217;t been lately.</p><p>There&#8217;s so much on the menu to choose from, ample parking, friendly workers &#8211; what&#8217;s not to like?</p><p>There&#8217;s something to be said about smaller family-owned eateries in this area. The atmosphere and people make you feel more &#8220;at home.&#8221;</p><p>Kim, the friend I&#8217;m constantly mentioning, and I ventured there on Wednesday night.</p><p>We sat at the end of the bar and owner Mary Ellen Dominick pulled up a seat by us too.</p><p>We caught up, mostly sharing stories about our families and animals.</p><p>We watched the variety of people coming in and out. Some were sitting for dinner; others just grabbing a pint at the bar on their way home from work.</p><p>My manicotti dish and the beloved pizza hit the spot, so do yourself a favor and remember Dominick&#8217;s when you&#8217;re thinking of old-time favorite places to go. The restaurant has been around for more than half a century.</p><p>I also noticed some places having live music on Wednesday, the biggest night out of the year.</p><p>We don&#8217;t have as many bands playing as in the past, so it was a treat to stop by 279 Bar &amp; Grill to hear No Vacancy, a group I had never heard before but highly enjoyed. There was lots of energy and both cover and original music.</p><p>Kudos to 279 for booking live acts the entire weekend (I hear karaoke is tonight at 8 p.m.).</p><p>Whenever we can go somewhere to hear local, live music we&#8217;re lucky.</p><p>It&#8217;s vital to support the music scene when we can so that new artists keep debuting and venues keep booking.</p><p>Have a great rest of your weekend.</p><style>
