<p>UGI Utilities natural-gas customers will be paying slightly more.</p><p>The increase will go into effect Saturday in the company&#8217;s North District, formerly known as Penn Natural Gas.</p><p>The North District serves more than 168,000 customers in 15 counties in northeastern Pennsylvania.</p><p>The average residential customer&#8217;s bill will increase by 0.8 percent, to $90 a month from $89.25, the utility said.</p><p>Utilities are required by law to pass the purchased cost of natural gas directly onto customers without a markup.</p><p>&#8220;Natural gas continues to be an economical, reliable and environmentally responsible source of energy for our customers and our communities,&#8221; Paul Szykman, UGI&#8217;s chief regulatory officer, said in a press release Friday.</p><p>The utility has a program in place to assist customers having difficulty paying their heating bills. The free budget-billing program spreads out the billing amounts evenly over a 12-month period.</p><p>Other programs are available for customers on limited or fixed incomes. They can call 1-800-UGIWARM (1-800-844-9276) to determine if they are eligible for the energy assistance programs. UGI also can assist eligible customers in applying for grants through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP.</p><p>UGI encourages customers to use energy wisely and make efficiency improvements in their homes. </p><p>Additional information on energy efficiency and assistance programs is available at <a href="https://www.ugi.com/" target="_blank">www.ugi.com</a>. </p><style>
