The following are recent Luzerne County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According to the agency: &#8220;Any inspection is a &#8216;snapshot&#8217; of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.&#8221;The information is taken from the inspection database at <a class="vglnk" href="http://www.eatsafepa.com/" rel="nofollow">www.eatsafepa.com</a>. Postal addresses used here areas listed on the state&#8217;s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.Boscov&#8217;s #009, 105 Laurel Mall, Hazle Township: Regular inspection, out of compliance. Violations: Observed a build up of food residue on the interior of the microwave. Microwave was cleaned. Observed a build up of food residue on the post can opener blade. Can opener was cleaned. Observed a build up of mold like residue on the deflector plate in the ice machine and on the ice scoop.Working containers used for storing cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Containers were labeled. 2 severely dented canned items observed in storage area and intended for use in the food facility. Items were removed from use. Soups held at 125&#176;F, rather than 135&#176;F or above as required. Soups were reheated to appropriate temperature. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Facility directed to use the 3 compartment sink to sanitize equipment until the dishwasher is functioning properly. Mechanical ware washing equipment had a mineral buildup observed inside. Observed a build up of residues and debris on the floor under shelving and equipment in prep, storage and cooler areas. The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.The Other Side, 421 Centre St., Freeland: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed the coating peeling on shelves in the refrigeration unit in the kitchen. Main St., Pittston: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed a build up of residue on shelves in the reach in cooler in the back area.River Street Jazz Cafe, 667 N. River St., Plains: Complaint inspection, in compliance.Fratello&#8217;s Pizzeria &amp; Italian Kitchen, 450 3rd St., Nescopeck: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: The post can opener blade, a food contact surface, was observed to have dried black residue and was not clean to sight and touch. The can opener was cleaned and sanitized during this inspection.High Acres/ Penn State Hazleton Housing &amp; Food Service, 17 University Dr., Hazleton: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Food Facility Person in Charge not able to produce records showing that raw or partially cooked ready to eat fish has been frozen by the facility or approved supplier as required, before use or sale. Letter dated 4/18/18 was provided from sushi vendor.Prepackaged grab and go items (cookies, muffins) not labeled properly with the ingredient statement.Observed a build up of residues on the surfaces around the nozzles on the self serve beverage machine.Observed rust forming on shelves in the walk in cooler. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available in the sushi vendor prep area.Food facility sushi vendor did not submit a HACCP plan for approval by the Department as required. PIC stated that sushi prep will be discontinued until proper documentation is received from vendor.Food utensils in ice cream and the self serve area observed stored in a container of water which is not maintained at 135&#176;F. Utensils were removed from the water.Higher Ground/ Penn State Hazleton, 17 University Dr., Hazleton: Regular inspection, in compliance.J&amp;CD Grocery Store, 700 N. Locust St., Hazleton: Regular inspection, out of compliance. Violations: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the kitchen reach in refrigerator, is not being date marked. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in refrigeration equipment. Observed male employee wash and rinse food equipment at front ware wash sink without using a sanitizer rinse.The food facility does not have a handwash sink located in the front food service area. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the rear kitchen area and in the employee restroom.Rice, beef/chicken filled pockets, pork was held at 95-110 &#176;F, in the hot holding area, rather than 135&#176;F or above as required. Cooked foods were displayed sitting on top of other hot foods held in the hot holding unit water wells resulting in food not being maintained at 135F or above. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Plastic grocery bags observed being used to store frozen meats.The handwash sink in the rear kitchen area was blocked by clothing, purse and not accessible at all times for employee use. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area.Observed boxes of pork stored directly on the floor in walk in cooler area rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.Salad entree with potatoes was held at 90&#176;F, on the front service area rather than 41&#176;F or below as required.Old unused equipment stored in basement area, should be removed from food facility. Excessive clutter of unused materials observed throughout basement.Person in charge is not monitoring the food risk factors closely enough as evidenced by this non compliant inspection.Facility is making too much hot foods that cannot being properly held in the hot water wells of the steam table. Extra hot food sit onto of steam table without a heat source to maintain product temperatures of 135F or above.Walk in cooler door surfaces have a black grim e build up.Lights are not shielded or shatter proof over the kitchen area.Basement entry door has a 1&#8221; gap along the base of the door, not rodent, insect proof.Joe&#8217;s Choice, 544 State Rte. 93, Sugarloaf: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: No tongs available at the self serve jerky display. Observed a build up of dust on the fan guard in the dairy cooler. Observed a build up of residue on the shelves and bottom in the dairy cooler. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair &#8212; observed leaking under the sink. Observed 100 old rodent like droppings under cabinets in the self serve area and under the sink.Slice Of Heaven, 112 Main St., Mocanaqua: Regular inspection, in compliance.Vine Farmers Market, 930 N. Observed clean food pans , stored uncovered or not inverted. Pans were inverted. Observed the coating peeling and rust forming on shelves in one refrigeration unit. Observed a build up of debris and residue on the floor under equipment and shelves in multiple areas.Fetch&#8217;s Smokehouse Meats, 180 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. The facility has 90 days to have an employee obtain a valid Food Managers Certification.Hanover Area Jr./Sr. High School, 1600 San Souci Pkwy., Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed a build up of residue on the shelves in the walk in cooler.McAlpine Street Pub and Pizza, 319 McAlpine St., Duryea: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Non-food contact surfaces of ice machine and dishwasher not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.Midway Beverage, 1152 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming: Opening inspection, in compliance. Violations: The receiving door located in the rear of the food facility has a gap at the floor/door junction on left side of the door and between the doors, and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals.Swoyersville Six Pack To Go, LLC, 1098 Main St., Swoyersville: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. No sign or poster posted at the hand wash sink to remind food employees to wash their hands. A sign was provided and posted during this inspection. The unisex restroom does not have a self-closing door.Tipsy Turtle, 29 Market St., Inkerman: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed a build up of residue on the shelves in the walk in cooler.Observed water pooling on the bottom of the beer cooler. Spinach dip, a refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the Bain Marie , was date-marked by the facility, but was beyond the 7 day use or sell by date and requires discarding. Food was discarded. Observed fruit flies in 2 bottles of liquor. Liquor was discarded. Observed webbing under shelves in the basement area.West Nanticoke Beer and Deli, 77 Allen St., West Nanticoke: Regular inspection, in compliance.Arias Mini-Market, 761 W. Broad St., Hazleton: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Fan guards in walk-in cooler in basement area have an accumulation of static dust. Women&#8217;s toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.Dunkin Donuts, 1150 State Rte. 315, Plains: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed pieces of black debris in the collata machine hopper. Machine was emptied and cleaned during inspection. Observed cracked lid on the bulk sugar container. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed a build up of dairy residue on the underside and edges of the shelves in the walk in cooler.Observed a build up of residue in the vents on the back side of the Bain Marie.Observed a build up of dust on the fan guards in the small under counter refrigeration units.Observed a build up of residue along the cracks on the Bunn powdered flavor dispenser.III Guys Restaurant &amp; Sports Bar, 51 S. Wyoming Ave., Edwardsville: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: An open employee&#8217;s beverage container was observed in pizza making area, a food preparation area. The drink was discarded during this inspection.Observed containerized food stored directly on the floor in walk-in freezer, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. The post can opener blade, a food contact surface, was observed to have dried food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. The can opener was cleaned and sanitized during this inspection.Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodents (approximately 25 old dried rodent droppings on the exterior top surface of the dish machine). In an interview with the Person in Charge he stated that the owner does have a pest control company involved. Observed glue boards throughout the prep and storage areas. The old rodent dropping were removed during this inspection.The exit door located in the Kitchen area of the food facility has a gap between the doors near the floor, and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals.My Town Supermarket, 46 E. Broad St., Hazleton: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed wet wiping cloths in deli prep area, not being stored in sanitizer solution. Shelving in the walk in cooler is rusted and need of repair and in need of repair.Observed shelves in meat case in the sales area, with an accumulation of mold-like substance on non-food contact surfaces.Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the deli meat processing area. Ceiling tiles are stained and discolored in the deli prep area, and need replaced. Food Facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine chlorine sanitizer concentration. Reviewed manual ware washing procedures in the three compartment sink. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view and does not have records to substantiate having passed a course. Facility will correct by 1/15/19. The handwash sink in the deli service area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air drying device.Observed several cases of raw chicken and vegetables stored directly on the floor in walk in cooler area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dried blood on floor in the walk in cooler. Toilet facility needs paper towels.Orange Julius, 200 Wyoming Valley Mall, Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Yogurt observed thawing in standing water in the sink, which is not an approved thawing method. Yogurt was moved to cooler to finish thawing. Discussed proper thawing methods and provided guidance document. Observed a build up of debris on the floor and under equipment in the storage shed.Pittston Six Packs To Go, 308 Rte. 315 Hwy., Pittston: Follow-up inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed a build up of black mold like residues on shelves in the walk in cooler. Observed a build up of dust, webbing and debris under equipment and shelving in multiple areas of the facility.Royal House Buffet, 29 Wyoming Valley Mall #308, Wilkes-Barre: Follow-up inspection, in compliance.Something Special Bakery, 23 W, Walnut St., Kingston: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: No sign or poster posted at the hand wash sink in the employee restroom to remind food employees to wash their hands. The facility posted a sign during this inspection. The fan guard inside of the Turbo air refrigeration u nit has a build up of static dust and is in need of cleaning.Weis Markets #156, 70 Village Shopping Center, Duryea: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Food ingredient storage containers, in the bakery area, is not labeled with the common name of the food.
