Education-funding lawsuit with local participants finally gets trial schedule

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Prosecutors on Wednesday modified a felony aggravated assault charge and withdrew other charges against Layla Marie Lugo, 24, who was accused of stabbing her boyfriend in October.</p><p>Court records say Lugo was arrested Oct. 7 by Edwardsville police after Dylan Lee Kihefner claimed she stabbed him inside her Main Street apartment. After being stabbed, Kihefner went to a bar in Edwardsville and called a friend, who gave him a ride to a residence on Scarboro Avenue in Exeter.</p><p>Police in Exeter were called and later contacted officers in Edwardsville, who spoke with Kihefner at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.</p><p>Kihefner claimed he was arguing with Lugo about trust issues. After the two punched each other, Kihefner claimed Lugo opened a pocketknife and swung at him several times, striking him in the chest and shoulders, records say.</p><p>Prosecutors at a preliminary hearing in Luzerne County Central Court withdrew charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment against Lugo.</p><p>An aggravated assault charge was reduced to a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Lugo then pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.</p><p style="text-align: right;"><em> &#8212; By Ed Lewis</em></p><style>

Stabbing suspect pleads to disorderly conduct after charge reduced
