<p>Wyoming County Reads: One County, One Book, One Movie for 2019 kicks off with the return of John Tindell of Northampton Community College to review &#8220;The Color Purple&#8221; and the &#8220;History of African Americans in Film&#8221; at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock. Snow date is Jan. 30.</p><p>This free event, sponsored by the Wyoming County Commissioners, is open to the public. &#8220;The Color Purple&#8221; by Alice Walker is the 2019 choice for Wyoming County Reads: an award-winning book and an award-winning movie. Tindell&#8217;s presentation will address its place in the history of African Americans in film.</p><p>Tindell has taught film and mass media courses at Northampton Community College, Monroe Campus for 14 years and is the faculty advisor for the Campus Film Society. His other two presentations were related to &#8220;Catch-22&#8221; and Steven King.</p><p>Wyoming County Reads discussions at the Tunkhannock Public Library are on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The first and fourth Wednesdays, Feb. 6 and 27 will be led by Bill Chapla, back by popular demand. On the second Wednesday, Feb. 13, Dr. Richard Hancuff, professor of African American Literature at Misericordia University. He will address the issue of racism in &#8220;The Color Purple.&#8221; On Wednesday, Feb. 20, Dr. Marnie Hiester-Idec, professor of Psychology at Misericordia University, will discuss the issue of sexism in the book.
