Deal reached on superintendent’s departure at Crestwood, board president says

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Wilkes-Barre man serving a probation sentence on a drug charge was arrested after he allegedly fled a traffic stop tossing heroin packets during a foot chase Monday night.</p><p>State police said Jason Alexander Hackett, 26, was caught and detained by a city public works employee until a city police officer took him into custody just before 9 p.m.</p><p>Hackett, of South Grant Street, took off from a vehicle being pursued by a trooper for speeding on Kidder Street. Several heroin packets were allegedly recovered outside Hackett&#8217;s vehicle and in the area where he was captured, according to court records.</p><p>Court records say Hackett was sentenced Aug. 16 by Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough to six months probation on a drug possession charge filed by Kingston police.</p><p>According to the criminal complaint:</p><p>A trooper attempted to stop Hackett, operating a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, for traveling 50 mph in a 35 mph zone on Kidder Street. Hackett turned into a parking lot and failed to stop, turning onto Scott Street.</p><p>Hackett stopped near Hortense Street where he abandoned the Jeep.</p><p>As Hackett jumped out, several heroin packets stamped &#8220;Devils Rejects&#8221; fell to the ground.</p><p>A public works employee witnessed the chase and subdued Hackett until he was taken into custody by a city police officer.</p><p>A &#8220;Devils Rejects&#8221; heroin packet was found in the immediate area where Hackett was detained.</p><p>A trooper observed Hackett having watery, bloodshot and droopy eyes.</p><p>Hackett allegedly admitted he consumed drugs before the traffic stop.</p><p>Hackett was transported to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for a blood test.</p><p>Hackett was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, flight to avoid apprehension, driving with a suspended license and several traffic violations.</p><p>He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail.</p><style>
