PennDOT partially lifts ban, but reduces speed limits

<p>KINGSTON &#8212; The X-Calibur Wrestling Club, run by Wyoming Seminary has helped produce a number of talented wrestlers in the area who have gone on to succeed in many different aspects.</p><p>Add a pair of Harveys Lake residents to the list.</p><p>Wyoming Seminary seniors Jake Stefanowicz and Mike Doggett both announced their college plans on Saturday as part of a Blue Knights&#8217; event that saw seven athletes make their Division I plans official.</p><p>Stefanowicz will wrestle for the University of Pennsylvania, while Doggett heads to Harvard.</p><p>Benjamin Baker (Cornell), Austin Cooley (University of Pittsburgh), Michael Giallorenzi (Bucknell), Justin Hoyle (Hofstra) and Darrien Roberts (University of Oklahoma) also announced their decisions on Saturday morning.</p><p>&#8220;That&#8217;s the expectation. And that we provide the resources as a school and the wrestling program to allow them to achieve those goals,&#8221; Blue Knights coach Scott Green said about having several D-I recruits. &#8220;The exposure they get wrestling on our schedule and the exposure they get being a part of this team with college coaches coming to visit frequently. They just gotta do the work. The pathway is there for them.&#8221;</p><p>Stefanowicz and Doggett both grew up in the Back Mountain area with Stefanowicz being from the Lake-Lehman School District and Doggett from Dallas Area. They both met years ago while Stefanowicz was wrestling for the Noxen Strikers and Doggett was part of Rock Solid. They wrestled against each other before joining Rock Solid and X-Calibur in junior high and eventually becoming teammates for the Blue Knights.</p><p>&#8220;To see two local guys going to high-level Ivy League schools like that is really awesome for the area,&#8221; Doggett said. &#8220;It&#8217;s really awesome for wrestling. I&#8217;m glad to see him doing well too.&#8221;</p><p>Doggett, the son of Lisa and Jeff, started attending the school during elementary at the Lower School. He always has performed at a top level taking second at the National Prep Championships last year. On Friday night, he bumped up from his normal weight class of 195 to heavyweight for the team&#8217;s dual against Blair Academy and won via technical fall. He chose Harvard over the Naval Academy and it was hard decision.</p><p>&#8220;There were a couple options that I had, and essentially what it came down to was that every school had what I was looking and was perfect and it was really coming upon me to make Harvard the right choice for me,&#8221; Doggett said. &#8220;I really loved the coaches and was up there for an official visit and really felt like I was part of the team. It just felt right for me. I know all the schools were right for me too and it was really on me to make the right choice.&#8221;</p><p>Green said that Stefanowicz, the son of Shelly and Mike, is one of the smartest kids he&#8217;s ever coached. He picked Penn over Cornell because of relationship with friend and former Sem wrestler Jake Hendricks, who is currently wrestling at the school. Stefanowicz said his decision came a little late because at first he thought he wanted to go to a rural school, but then fell in love with the historic Philadelphia establishment.</p><p>Like Doggett, he was a PA Prep State champion last season. From there he went on to finish fourth in the national tournament, and said he never would have had the chance to go Ivy League if he didn&#8217;t transfer to Sem as a ninth-grader and it was the best decision him and family ever made.</p><p>&#8220;As a hometown kid from Lake-Lehman, I didn&#8217;t start my first two (junior high) years here and I don&#8217;t think many people would have thought I could even make the team,&#8221; Stefanowicz said. &#8220;Then my recent development just with this current group of guys, it made me excel to the highest level. The college guidance as well, is just setting us up to be the best.&#8221;</p><p>It&#8217;s become the norm for the Blue Knights to produce so many Division I products. The current class will combine to make more than two dozen Sem products who are wrestling in college with the majority of them on the Division I level.</p><p>&#8220;I think it&#8217;s a testament to the coaching staff and the partners that we have in the room,&#8221; Doggett said. &#8220;To see that many guys going Division I schools and get to advance their careers at places like that, I think it&#8217;s just a testament to how hard everyone&#8217;s been working. We put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into our training. We have the best coaching staff in the country and the deepest room in the country so it&#8217;s a testament to that.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Wyoming Valley West 46, Pittston Area 36</strong></p><p>After getting out to a 34-0 lead thanks to a Justin Hargrave 12-8 decision, the Spartans were able to hold off a furious comeback from Pittston Area.</p><p>Zander Remakus, Cadden Kucek, David Krokowski and Jaylon Brunson all registered pins in the win.</p><p>CJ Demark, Nick Ridgley, AJ Gorto, John Morris and Kyle Mlodzienski all picked up pins for the Patriots.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Wyoming Valley West 46, Pittston Area 36</strong></p><p><strong>106 &#8212;</strong> Ian Ratchford (WVW) won by forfeit; <strong>113 &#8212;</strong> Zander Remakus (WVW) pinned Joii Phillips 1:50; <strong>120 &#8212;</strong> Cadden Kucek (WVW) pinned Justin Bryk 2:31; <strong>126 &#8212;</strong> J.J.
