<p><strong>Fleeing suspect detained by </strong></p><p><strong>WB employee waives hearing</strong></p><p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A man who failed to stop for state police and was later detained by a Wilkes-Barre Department of Public Works employee waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Luzerne County Central Court on Thursday.</p><p>State police allege Jason Alexander Hackett, 26, of South Grant Street, Wilkes-Barre, failed to stop and initiated a pursuit on Scott Street on Jan. 14.</p><p>Hackett abandoned his 2015 Jeep Cherokee near Hortense Street and fled, troopers said.</p><p>Martin Dartoe, a city employee, helped detain Hackett after a struggle in an alley.</p><p>State police said several heroin packets fell from Hackett during the foot chase.</p><p>Hackett waived charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, flight to avoid apprehension and driving under the influence of a controlled substance to county court.</p><p>Prosecutors withdrew charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and several traffic citations.</p><p><strong>Exeter man faces trial for</strong></p><p><strong>allegedly trying to steal pipe</strong></p><p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A man who Exeter police say attempted to steal copper pipes from an occupied residence waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Luzerne County Central Court on Thursday.</p><p>A homeowner on Susquehanna Avenue called police Jan. 10 to report she heard noises coming from the basement of her residence.</p><p>Police noticed a garage door was forced open. </p><p>They said they later found Kyle Allen Wicht, 36, inside with a headlamp flashlight on his head and a bandana over his face. Wicht&#8217;s backpack contained a crowbar, a cell phone and shears, police say.</p><p>Wicht waived charges of criminal trespass and possessing instruments of crime to county court.</p><p>Prosecutors withdrew charges of burglary and loitering and prowling at night.</p><style>
