WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The first three minutes were shocking. The final four minutes were exactly what Wyoming Seminary needed to put away a determined GAR team and ultra-productive guard Will Johnson on Thursday night.After Johnson scored his 28th and 29th points with 4:08 to play, Seminary shut off the Grenadiers offense the rest of the way for a 67-59 victory in a Wyoming Valley Conference boys basketball interdivisional game.&#8220;I felt like there were moments in the game where we played very well,&#8221; said Seminary coach Pete Moses, whose team stayed atop Division 3 at 9-0 and improved to 14-1 overall. &#8220;I think Dimitri (Gnall) and Jeremy (Callahan) had extremely hot games tonight. I was really proud of both of them. We as a staff knew we had to feed the ball to Jeremy because he was on fire.&#8221;Playing on the same GAR court where his father Bill was a standout, Callahan led a comeback with three 3-pointers in the second half as part of his 21-point game. Gnall scored 25 despite sitting out the opening minutes of the third quarter due to foul trouble. Gnall broke a 59-59 tie after Johnson scored his final two points as the Blue Knights went on an 8-0 run over the final four minutes.With the loss, GAR (6-4 Div. 2, 9-6) fell out of a first-place tie with Nanticoke Area in Division 2. The Grenadiers began the night in fourth in the District 2 Class 4A standings, slightly ahead of Tunkhannock and slightly behind Valley View.&#8220;It&#8217;s hard to put a good spin on a loss,&#8221; GAR coach Jerry Altavilla said, &#8220;but that was probably one of the better teams we&#8217;ve played all year. They&#8217;re a great team, and we played with them pretty well.&#8221;Make that extremely well to start the game. GAR&#8217;s Jared O&#8217;Day dropped in 3-pointers from each corner to give the Grenadiers a 10-1 lead less than three minutes in. But those baskets also set Seminary&#8217;s defensive strategy.Moses said the key was deciding which additional Blue Knight to use to add more bodies to clog the driving lanes. The plan was to make it more difficult for Johnson, who entered the game averaging 27.7 points in WVC play and 38.5 in his last two games. With O&#8217;Day displaying a hot hand, his defender would stay put.Still, Johnson drove, dished and shot like he has throughout his career. O&#8217;Day added 14 points, but the rest of the team produced just 16 more.Holy Redeemer 56, Berwick 45Holy Redeemer was led by Collin Cook, who scored 20 points.
