State Police searching for missing Hazle Township woman

<p>SUGARLOAF TWP. &#8212; Police charged a Berwick-area man with resisting arrest when he was apprehended for allegedly kidnapping a 5-year-old boy from his residence last month.</p><p>Wilber Adonay Ayala, 28, took the boy against the wishes of his live-in girlfriend during an argument inside their East Third Street home Jan. 27, according to Salem Township police.</p><p>Salem officers alerted other police departments, and Sugarloaf Township police said they later spotted Ayala and the boy leaving the Pilot Truck Stop on Route 93 near Conyngham.</p><p>When Ayala was arrested, he allegedly struggled with officers.</p><p>Sugarloaf Township police charged him Monday with resisting arrest and failure to have the boy secured in a child safety seat.</p><p>In Salem, Ayala was charged with kidnapping, child endangerment and reckless endangerment.</p><p>A preliminary hearing on the kidnapping-related counts was continued Tuesday until Feb. 12. A hearing on the other set of charges is set for March 11.</p><p>Criminal complaints provide more details on the alleged kidnapping and suspect&#8217;s capture:</p><p>The boy&#8217;s mother told Salem officers that Ayala took the boy from their residence despite her pleas not to do so. She claimed they were arguing because she found a white powdery substance she believed was a drug inside the house, noting Ayala was a drug user.</p><p>During the argument, she reported Ayala ran out of the house with her son. He left in a dark gray Nissan Rouge.</p><p>The boy had no jacket and no shoes at a time when temperatures were only about 20 degrees.</p><p>Police in Sugarloaf later spotted the suspect&#8217;s vehicle at the truck stop, about 10 miles from where Ayala took the boy.</p><p>Ayala told police he planned to stop at Walmart in Hazle Township to buy food and later get a motel room, but then decided to drive to the truck stop to get food.</p><p>He was released from jail Jan. 30 when he posted $20,000 bail, court records show.</p><style>
