<p>AVOCA &#8212; An airplane that departed Newark International Airport on Thursday morning, headed for Toronto, Canada, experienced engine trouble, forcing it to make an emergency landing at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.</p><p>Carl Beardsley, executive director at the local airport, said all 34 passengers aboard and four crew members were safe and sound and awaiting a new aircraft to take them to Toronto, departing at 1 p.m. and arriving in Toronto around 3 p.m.</p><p>The plane, a Porter Airlines <a href="https://www.bombardier.com/en/media/newsList/details.bca-20170328-bombardier-q400-aircraft-continues-to-support-porte.bombardiercom.html" target="_blank">Q400 turbo-prop regional </a><a href="https://www.bombardier.com/en/media/newsList/details.bca-20170328-bombardier-q400-aircraft-continues-to-support-porte.bombardiercom.html" target="_blank">airliner</a>, will remain at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) to be repaired, Beardsley said.</p><p>&#8220;This is something that is very uncommon,&#8221; said Beardsley. &#8220;However, we provide training for these types of situations all year long. Our emergency responders did a tremendous job, proving that the training is essential.&#8221;</p><p>Beardsley said the distressed aircraft experienced engine problems and decided to make an emergency landing at AVP.</p><p><a href="https://www.flightstats.com/v2/flight-details/PD/122?year=2019&amp;month=2&amp;date=7&amp;flightId=989188620" target="_blank">According to online tracking </a><a href="https://www.flightstats.com/v2/flight-details/PD/122?year=2019&amp;month=2&amp;date=7&amp;flightId=989188620" target="_blank">records</a>, the plane was scheduled to depart Newark at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, but actually left at 9:28 a.m. It made its emergency landing at AVP at 10:08 a.m.</p><p>Beardsley said the passengers and crew came into the AVP terminal to use the restaurant, restrooms and to make phone calls while waiting for their departure.</p><p>&#8220;The crew and passengers were all thankful for the hospitality and professionalism shown at AVP,&#8221; Beardsley said.</p><style>
