Pa. Attorney General sues to protect patients in dispute between UPMC, Highmark

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A man facing charges he battered a woman for hours inside his home won&#8217;t face any Megan&#8217;s Law repercussions for now.</p><p>Matthew A. Gyle, 39, faced lifetime registration of his residence and employment if he pleaded guilty to or was convicted of the only felony sex assault charge against him.</p><p>With the sex charge withdrawn, Gyle won&#8217;t face any potential Megan&#8217;s Law requirements.</p><p>Under a negotiated plea deal reached between Gyle&#8217;s attorney, Allyson Kacmarski, and city police Thursday, Gyle waived his right to a preliminary hearing. That sent to county court the following charges: simple assault, false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, intimidation of a witness or victim and harassment.</p><p>A single felony count of aggravated indecent assault was withdrawn.</p><p>Gyle once boasted the woman he is accused of beating won&#8217;t pursue charges against him.</p><p>But police said if Gyle doesn&#8217;t plead guilty to the charges he waived to county court, the aggravated indecent assault charge will be reactivated.</p><p>Police arrested Gyle after a woman claimed he forced her to remove her clothes, threatened her with an ice pick and assaulted her for hours inside his residence on Conyngham Avenue on Jan. 12.</p><p>She managed to escape after she convinced him to take a shower together. She ran out of his house naked and summoned help from a stranger.</p><p>Gyle was also charged with intimidating the woman after she claimed he repeatedly called her from jail after his arrest.</p><p>It was the second time Gyle has been charged with assaulting the woman.</p><p>State police charged him Nov. 21 when the woman claimed he punched her several times in the face, blaming her for ruining his life, as they drove on Route 29 in Plymouth Township.</p><p>The case against Gyle for the alleged Nov. 21 assault was dismissed when the woman opted not to testify.</p><style>

Felony sex charge withdrawn against WB man
