Developer eyes new project in Dorrance Township

<p>Kingston lost a hero this past week.</p><p>As staff writer Bill O&#8217;Boyle told us in Thursday&#8217;s edition of the Times Leader, the Kingston Police Department&#8217;s beloved K-9 officer passed away on Saturday.</p><p>Onyx was a 10-year-old German Shepherd and had been a member of the force for more than eight years.</p><p>He was trained as a narcotics/patrol dog and spent his free time with police Chief Michael Krzywicki.</p><p>We offer our heartfelt condolences to Krzywicki and the whole Kingston Police Department on the passing of Onyx.</p><p>A quality trained police dog can make an officer&#8217;s life much easier, and from everything we know about Onyx, he was just that.</p><p>According to O&#8217;Boyle&#8217;s story, Onyx was still working football games and recently visited students at Wyoming Valley West&#8217;s Chester Street Elementary School.</p><p>&#8220;We read a story to the students,&#8221; Krzywicki recalled. &#8220;After the presentation, the students were allowed to pet him. Onyx loved kids.&#8221;</p><p>We also know that the sorrow for Krzywicki and his fellow officers goes beyond just losing a valued police dog.</p><p>Anyone who has ever allowed a four-legged friend into their lives knows the pain you feel when they die.</p><p>And even though he was a working police dog, Krzywicki told O&#8217;Boyle that Onyx was gentle and affectionate at home.</p><p>While we know no other dog will ever replace Onyx, we hope the Kingston Police Department can soon find another young pup to serve as its K-9 officer.</p><p>The job well-trained K-9 officers do are too vital for a department the size of Kingston&#8217;s to be without one.</p><p style="text-align: right;"><em>&#8211; Times Leader</em></p><style>
