<p>EXETER &#8212; Route 92 in Exeter remains closed due to a water-main break under the road that collapsed a portion of the highway Saturday, according to a PennDOT press release.</p><p>Due to the extent of the damage, PennDOT says it cannot provide an estimate on when the road might reopen.</p><p>But spokesman James May said a similar road collapse in Jessup caused by a recent mine subsidence took three or four days to repair.</p><p>An underground domestic water pipe owned by Pennsylvania American Water broke sometime Saturday, causing dirt and gravel to wash away and collapsing the asphalt above it, according to May.</p><p>The utility is expected to start making repairs Sunday morning, reports say. After that, PennDOT crews can start fixing the road.</p><p>May also noted that nearby Hicks Creek is diverted under Route 92 via a large pipe that sits under the Pennsylvania American pipe.</p><p>Initial observations indicate the creek pipe was not significantly damaged, which May said could&#8217;ve delayed work.</p><p>The spokesman told the Times Leader the road, known here as Exeter Avenue, will be made driveable with temporary repairs. A permanent fix will have to wait until asphalt plants reopen in the spring.</p><style>
