Ex-FBI official: ‘Crime may have been committed’ by Trump

<p>The Pennsylvania General Assembly appears set to give the Pennsylvania Game Commission the right to allow Sunday hunting as it sees fit.</p><p>As detailed in staff writer Tom Venesky&#8217;s story in Sunday&#8217;s Times Leader, Senate Bill 147, which is sponsored by Sen. Dan Laughlin, R-Erie, was voted out of the Senate Game and Fisheries Committee on Feb. 5 by an 8-3 vote. The bill would empower the Pennsylvania Game Commission to implement Sunday hunting as it sees fit. Currently, only coyotes, crows and foxes can be hunted on Sunday in Pennsylvania.</p><p>What&#8217;s more, State Sen. John Yudichak, who serves on the committee, voted in favor of the bill. State Sen. Lisa Baker also favors the measure.</p><p>&#8220;We need to find ways to grow the sport to more families and children with busy schedules. I&#8217;ve always been open to testing Sunday hunting on public lands currently permitted for hunting, so this bill seems to be a good starting point for further discussion,&#8221; Baker told Venesky.</p><p>We recognize that growing the sport for families and children is important. And certainly, as all our lives become busier and more hectic, finding more time to allow hunters to enjoy their sport is a laudable goal.</p><p>But we urge the legislature and the Game Commission to proceed with caution.</p><p>Hunters are not the only ones to use our state games lands and carving one day of the week out to keep Pennsylvania&#8217;s woodlands free of hunters may not be the worst idea in the world.</p><p>As detailed in Venesky&#8217;s story, both the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the Keystone Trails Association are opposed to Sunday hunting.</p><p>We think it&#8217;s important for both the Game Commission and the legislature to listen to all the stakeholders before making a final decision on Sunday hunting.</p><p>There is no reason to rush to a decision.</p><p>There doesn&#8217;t appear to be universal support for Sunday as evidence by many of the comments left on Venesky&#8217;s story at timesleader.com. Many commentors claiming to be hunters said that they don&#8217;t mind the current limits on Sunday hunting.</p><p>So we urge all involved to proceed with caution before pulling the trigger on Sunday hunting.</p><p style="text-align: right;">&#8211; Times Leader</p><style>
