Wilkes-Barre mayor’s Crime Watch connection a campaign issue for one challenger, not so for another

<p>WILKES-BARRE TWP. &#8212; Township police have identified a man they say committed armed robberies in both Wilkes-Barre Township and the city Thursday.</p><p>Officers are seeking Ashavan Terrell Monroe, 22, who is known on the street as &#8220;Avon.&#8221;</p><p>On Thursday afternoon, police say a black male with dreadlocks and wearing all black stopped someone outside United Check Cashing on Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard, brandishing a handgun and demanding cash.</p><p>Township police are now pointing to Monroe as the alleged perpetrator in that robbery.</p><p>A second robbery occurred in Wilkes-Barre City only a little more than an hour later, when police say the same suspect in the township robbery robbed an individual on New Grant Street. In the city case, a second man was reportedly involved.</p><p>Township police have filed a robbery count against Monroe for what allegedly happened outside United Check Cashing.</p><p>Monroe is black, about 5 feet 8 inches, and approximately 180 pounds.</p><p>Authorities list his last known addresses as Sherman Hills, Building 304, and Haldeman Street, Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>Police say anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should call 911, message the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department&#8217;s Facebook page, or call Wilkes-Barre City Police at 570-208-4200.</p><style>
