Another Democrat enters Wilkes-Barre mayor’s race

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Any upset bid Friday night was dashed quickly.</p><p>First by Wyoming Seminary, which scored the game&#8217;s first 11 points. Then by underdog Lakeland, which simply couldn&#8217;t make a shot.</p><p>Well, Lakeland did make a few in the first half, but the baskets were inconsequential as Seminary rolled to a 67-46 victory in a District 2 Class 3A boys basketball semifinal game at King&#8217;s College.</p><p>Seminary (24-2) will take on Holy Redeemer (20-3) for the district title at 8 p.m. Thursday at Mohegan Sun Arena. Both teams clinched spots in the state tournament with victories Friday. Lakeland ended its season at 15-9.</p><p>&#8220;We just tried to play a normal game, nothing different,&#8221; Seminary&#8217;s Todd Phillips said. &#8220;Our main goal was to get to the arena at get revenge on Redeemer after the last time we played.&#8221;</p><p>Seminary won the first meeting during the regular season, but lost the rematch to Redeemer. Thursday will be the team&#8217;s third matchup of the season.</p><p>Seminary&#8217;s Dimitri Gnall had a rather quiet double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Quiet because by midway through the second quarter the crowd pretty much knew it was watching the inevitable as Seminary had a 31-10 lead. There wasn&#8217;t much excitement brewing in the bleachers by that time except for an occasion outburst by the Lakeland student body.</p><p>Jeremy Callahan added 14 points and Jake Koretz added 10.</p><p>Four Blue Knights scored in the 11-point blitz to start the game to set the tone. An 18-2 run closed the half, resulting in a 40-18 Seminary advantage.</p><p>&#8220;We wanted to control the pace of the game,&#8221; Seminary coach Pete Moses said. &#8220;Forty at halftime was a number we were happy with. We did know (Lakeland) in their last game was down 15-6 after the first quarter and then tied the game at halftime by outscoring Dunmore 15-6. So we told our boys they couldn&#8217;t take their foot off the pedal tonight.&#8221;</p><p>Lakeland&#8217;s offense couldn&#8217;t find the pedal. The Chiefs&#8217; shooting in the first 16 minutes was atrocious. Jame Lewis was 3 for 6, but the rest of the team was 0 for 22 resulting in 11 percent shooting in the first half.</p><p>Lakeland straightened out its shooting somewhat in the third to cut the deficit to 20, Seminary, though, brought the lead back to 30 points in a three-minute span.
