<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Local promoter Joe Nardone will present a six-act &#8220;Golden Oldies Spectacular&#8221; this Friday at 7 p.m. at the F.M. Kirby Center in downtown Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>Headlining the show is &#8220;Mr. Personality&#8221; Lloyd Price, whose first big hit, &#8220;Lawdy Miss Clawdy,&#8221; embodied the rhythm and blues of the region and featured Fats Domino on piano. Price had a string of top 20 hits on both the pop and R&amp;B charts, including &#8220;Stagger Lee&#8221; (No. 1 on both charts), &#8220;Personality&#8221;(No. 2 on pop charts), &#8220;I&#8217;m Gonna Get Married&#8221; (No. 3), &#8220;Lady Luck,&#8221; &#8220;Question,&#8221; &#8220;Come into my Heart,&#8221; and &#8220;Just Because.&#8221;</p><p>Other acts include:</p><p>&#8226; The Skyliners doo-wop group from Pittsburgh had a huge hit with quintessential ballad &#8220;Since I Don&#8217;t Have You.&#8221; They appeared many times on American Bandstand and toured with Dick Clark&#8217;s Cavalcade of Stars, and performed on many of Alan Freed&#8217;s rock and roll shows.</p><p>Other hit singles were &#8220;This I Swear,&#8221; &#8220;Pennies From Heaven,&#8221; &#8220;It Happened Today,&#8221; and &#8220;Close your Eyes.&#8221; The Skyliners were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.</p><p>&#8226; Walt Maddux leads Pittsburgh&#8217;s own The Marcels into the Kirby Center. Formed in 1959 as a doo-wop group, they present a fun high-energy performance that categorically proves they put the &#8220;Bomp&#8221; in the &#8220;Bomp-A-Bomp. &#8220; &#8220;Blue Moon&#8221; sold more than 2.5 million copies and was a No. 1 smash hit in the US and the UK. The Marcels were also induced into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.</p><p>&#8226; Gary Troxel&#8217;s Fleetwoods were the first group to have two No. 1 hits on the Billboard Charts in the same year and the first mixed-gender trio with more then one No. 1 hit. &#8220;Come Softly to Me&#8221; and &#8220;Mr. Blue&#8221; both reached No. 1 on the charts, two of the 11 hits enjoyed by the Fleetwoods. Hailing from Olympia, Washington, other hits included &#8220;Graduation&#8217;s Here,&#8221; &#8220;Tragedy&#8221; and &#8220;The Great Imposter.&#8221; They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and the Doo Wop Hall of Fame in 2006.</p><p>&#8226; Two acts that represent the new generation of great singers determined to keep this timeless music alive will also perform.
