Meyers High School students named to second-quarter Honor Roll

<p>Members of the community are invited to an annual tradition in northeastern Pennsylvania, the 2019 Distinguished Citizens Award Dinner, hosted by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The dinner will be held on Thursday, March 7 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Pocono Resort, 1280 Highway 315, Wilkes-Barre. Now in its 36th year, the event is designed to help increase awareness of the Scouting program and raise funds in support of its youth programs.</p><p>The Boy Scouts will recognize the McCarthy Family, of McCarthy Tire, and Tom Donohue, of Lamar Advertising, with the Distinguished Citizens Award. The award is given to leaders in northeastern Pennsylvania who serve as role models in the community, and who represent the ideals of Scouting in their personal and professional lives.</p><p>Marianne Gilmartin, attorney at Stevens &amp; Lee, and Peter Danchak, regional president of PNC Bank, Northeast PA, are co-chairing the event. General Francis &#8220;Frank&#8221; Wiercinski, Lieutenant General, US Army, Retired, will serve as keynote speaker.</p><p>A native of Dickson City, LTG Wiercinski is senior vice president and managing director of the Indo-Pacific Region Cubic Global Defense, a global leader in the defense and transportation industries. Prior to joining Cubic, he served as the Vice President for Army Systems and Special Operations Programs, in the Washington D.C. Government Affairs office of the Lockheed Martin Corporation. He is also the founder and managing partner of Wiercinski and Associates, LLC, a consulting agency advising strategic engagement and business development for the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, based in Honolulu, Hawaii.</p><p>LTG Wiercinski is a 1979 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, and a graduate of the US Army Senior Service College at Carlisle Barracks. During his 34 years of service in the U.S. Army, LTG Wiercinski commanded at every level, from Rifle Platoon Leader through 3 Star Theater Level Command. In addition to combat valor awards, he is a US Army Ranger and Master Parachutist with a Combat Jump Star. He has also been decorated by the countries of Canada, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, and Taiwan.</p><p>The 2019 Distinguished Citizens Award Dinner is the organization&#8217;s major fundraiser for the year. Tickets are $150 per person or $1,500 for a table of 10. A portion of the fee is tax-deductible.
