Friedman Gallery at Misericordia University hots 10th anniversary

<p>The Greater Wilkes-Barre Friendly Sons of St, Patrick are pleased to announce their guest speaker will be Mookie Wilson, fan favorite and hero of the 1986 World Champion New York Mets.</p><p>The annual dinner will be held Friday, March 1 at the Best Western Plus Genetti Hotel and Conference Center in Wilkes-Barre. Cocktail hour is at 5 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. </p><p>Cost is $70 per person. Tickets may be purchased from any member of the society or by contacting ticket chairman Jim Kelly at 570-472-4036.</p><p>William Hayward Wilson, better known as &#8220;Mookie&#8221; Wilson, was the switch-hitter for the New York Metropolitan Baseball Club (&#8220;Mets&#8221;) He made his debut with the Mets on Sept. 2, 1980 for the first of 10 seasons, a favorite with Mets fans, who would chant &#8220;Moooo-kie&#8221; for their hero.</p><p>Mookie earned baseball immortality in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series against The Boston Red Sox where the Red Sox were one out away from winning the game and the World Series when Wilson came to bat against Red Sox pitcher Bob Stanley in the bottom of the 10th inning with two out and two men on. Wilson battled Stanley until his hit towards Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner, which gave the Mets a chance to score, making Mookie&#8217;s 1986 Mets, a team that had won an astounding 108 games in the regular season, the World&#8217;s Champs.</p><p>Mookie Wilson was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame and in 2005 was the manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones, a New York Mets farm team.</p><style>
