H.S. Swimming: Dallas boys capture team title at 2A districts

WILLIAMSPORT &#8212; David Evans has started to feel back to his old self.A PIAA Northeast Class 2A Regional title might have been just what the doctor ordered.The Tunkhannock junior, who is recovering from a broken arm that kept him out of most of the season, fought through the pain and tough competition Saturday to win the title at 120 pounds and punch his ticket to the PIAA Wrestling Championships next week.&#8220;I am slowly getting back into shape and to where I want to be,&#8221; said Evans. &#8220; I am getting close.&#8220;I am just grateful to be competing and to have won.&#8221;Evans is one of seven area wrestlers to have qualified for states and was one of two champions - the other being Hanover&#8217;s D.J. Erickson. Evans found himself in a tussle in the semifinal with Warrior Run two-time state qualifier Eric Hunt as the two went back and forth.&#8220;(Hunt) is a really tough kid,&#8221; Evans said. &#8220;It really gave my arm a workout and it was sore afterwards.&#8221;With the score 14-12 in the final minute, Evans was able to get a headlock on Hunt and dropped him to the mat for the fall. He completed his title run with a 12-6 win over Milton&#8217;s Kyler Crawford in the final.Evans will not be heading to the Giant Center alone as teammate Gavin D&#8217;Amato finished third at 145.Erickson also had a tough road and found himself in battle in the 152 final with Benton freshman Nolan Lear.&#8220;He might just be a freshman but he is one heck of a wrestler,&#8221; Erickson said. &#8220;It was a battle.&#8221;The two ended regulation 1-1 and after a scoreless first period of overtime, the two traded quick escapes.Lear won the toss and choose down, but even though he escaped quick the first time, Erickson wasn&#8217;t worried.&#8220;Wrestling is all about being mentally prepared,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I just told myself he wasn&#8217;t going to get out.&#8221;And he didn&#8217;t. Erickson rode out Lear for the 30 seconds and won the title.&#8220;It feels great to win the title,&#8221; Erickson said. &#8220;But it&#8217;s not over yet because I still have states next week.&#8221;Erickson will also not be alone on the trip to Hershey as teammate Joe Rowley placed fourth at 120 and will make the trip.Lake Lehman did not get any wrestlers in the finals but did get three state qualifiers and placed seventh in the team race. Bob Long, T.J.
