A day after escaping its own upset scare, the Penn State Wilkes-Barre men&#8217;s basketball team is now the highest seed remaining in the hunt for a national title.The third-seeded Mountain Lions are two wins away from the championship, playing Tuesday night in the USCAA Division II semifinals against 10th-seeded Vermont Tech at 5 p.m. in Uniontown.Tech knocked off No. 2 Villa Maria College 70-66 on Monday after being tied 33-33 at the half and 66-66 with just one minute remaining in regulation. Later Monday night, No. 1-seeded Berkeley College (N.Y.) &#8212; the four-time defending national champ &#8212; fell to No. 9 Penn State York 69-67.Penn State Wilkes-Barre (23-5) will play in the first semifinal before Penn State York takes on No. 5 Johnson &amp; Wales (N.C.) at 7 p.m. The winners will play for the national title at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.The Mountain Lions won their own quarterfinal on Sunday, edging No. 6 NHTI 70-68 on a Jordan Williams bucket with four seconds left.Vermont Tech is the lowest seed in the 10-team bracket, needing to play a first-round game on Sunday, beating Penn State Mont Alto. Penn State Wilkes-Barre received a bye to the quarters.If the Mountain Lions win, the title game could be a rematch of the PSUAC championship in which Wilkes-Barre lost to York in overtime at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College.SOFTBALLMU sweeps pairThe Cougars beat Widener 8-3 and Thiel 10-3 to improve to 3-1.Jessie McDonough had three hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs against Widener. Amanda Butera had two hits and Ciara DeLong hit a two-run homer. Jessica Oltman struck out four and scattered six hits to go the distance and earn her first collegiate victory.DeLong had another homer and drove in five runs against Thiel. Taylor Baloga worked four innings to earn her first win with Misericordia. Miranda Bohn went the final three innings to notch her first save. BASEBALLBaldwin Wallace 8, Misericordia 7Misericordia&#8217;s ninth-inning rally came up just short. The Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth but stranded the tying run on third base.Dalton Emerich had three hits and drove in two runs and Kenny Jarema and Steve Weisensee both had three hits. Tyler Holzapfel had two hits and Shane Hughes drove in two runs.MEN&#8217;S LACROSSEMisericordia 24, Emmanuel 7Eleven different players scored goals for the Cougars led by Nick Torzilli and Conner Ertwistle, who both had five goals and three assists.Patrick Luzzi added three goals and four assists. Allen Thomas and Brandon Winslow had two goals and an assist and Robert Wagner and Sean McSwiggan had a goal and two assists each.WOMEN&#8217;S LACROSSE Montclair 15, Misericordia 14 (OT)The Cougars led 12-8 early in the second half before Montclair rattled off six straight goals to take a 14-12 lead. Justine Johnson and Kaila Quinlivan each scored in the final three minutes to force overtime, but the hosts pulled out the win.Johnson led the Cougars with five goals and an assist and three caused turnovers and Quinlivan added four goals.<style>
