<p>Abstract landscape paintings or &#8220;Abscapes&#8221; by four artists are on display at the Dietrich Theater through March 31. The Kitson Arts Alliance and the Dietrich Theater invite the public to a Meet the Artist reception for the Abscapes Exhibit on Sunday, March 10 between 2 and 4 p.m. Featured artists are Amy Hoi Ngan Hsiao, Vince Musto, Sue Palackas, and Morgan M. Scudder.</p><p>Amy Hoi Ngan Hsiao grew up in Hong Kong and has lived in Pennsylvania all of her adult life. Having earned a BFA in Fine Art, majoring in ceramics, she says, &#8220; I am currently working with acrylics and other water-based mediums using non-objective imagery and abstracted landscapes to explore extreme visual contrasts using marks, colors, shapes and lines.&#8221;</p><p>Vince Musto was born in Pittston. Graduating from Wilkes University, he began his teaching career in private an public schools, including Tunkhannock Area High School, retiring in 2006. He began his artistic career by doing charcoal and pencil sketches, transitioning to acrylic and oil on canvas. It was some years later that Musto became inspired by the works of Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, developing an abstract expressionist style of his own.</p><p>Sue Palackas, now a Meshoppen resident, credits a three-day workshop at the Endless Mountains Council on the Arts, presented by an abstract artist, to her growth in the field of abstract art. &#8220;She helped me to focus on the elements of design and opened my eyes to methods of acrylic painting and collage that I had never attempted before. I then attended her week-long workshop, learning more each day. A passion was born.&#8221;</p><p>Morgan Marie Scudder was born and raised in the countryside of Tunkhannock and acknowledges it was in Tunkhannock Area High School that she &#8220;got serious about art making,&#8221; crediting her art teacher Paul Niedzwiecki. She went on to graduate from Keystone College with a B.A. in Visual Arts. &#8220;I have driven my art away from the traditional landscape to a more simple abstract style.&#8221; She especially likes to capture &#8220;the end of the day. The evening sky intrigues me in all its ethereal attributes.&#8221;</p><p>This exhibit feature four artists, four interpretations, four ways of &#8220;seeing&#8221; our surroundings: abstract landscapes inviting the viewer to linger to experience other ways of expressing our worlds.
