War of words continues over cancelled Back Mountain event

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8211; Northeast Sight Services may want to consider a spot on the Professional Bowlers Association tour.</p><p>For the second year in a row, the agency walked away with the top prize at the Pins for Nonprofits event presented by the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce&#8217;s Young Professionals Network at Chacko&#8217;s Family Bowling Center on Thursday night.</p><p>&#8220;The idea behind the whole thing is that anyone can come out and bowl as a team on behalf of a nonprofit of their choice,&#8221; said Ahmad Ali, of the Young Professionals Network. &#8220;Then we invite those nonprofits to come out and put out tables and any information they have and showcase their services.&#8221;</p><p>Fourteen area nonprofits were represented, with Family Services Center finishing second and the Wilkes-Barre YMCA finishing third.</p><p>For its first-place finish, Northeast Sight Services will receive proceeds from the bowling. While Ali wasn&#8217;t sure how much money the night would bring in, he did say that last year&#8217;s event raised about $600 and he was hopeful of doubling that.</p><p>This year&#8217;s event added a raffle and 50-50, and Ali said the number of teams was up from the inaugural event last year.</p><p>&#8220;Essentially, that&#8217;s what we try to do at every event,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The young professionals put on four events throughout the year that have the same kind of mission to provide some level of professional growth and networking that also gives back to the community.&#8221;</p><p>He added that the night was about more than just raising money.</p><p>&#8220;(Pins for Nonprofits) gives the young professionals attending an opportunity to learn about the nonprofits and learn about their services and maybe even discover something they didn&#8217;t even know was in the area to begin with,&#8221; he said. &#8220;If (the nonprofits) are looking for volunteers and they want to get involved, they have the information right there and they can get involved.&#8221;</p><p>Ali pointed to one more thing about the night.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a fun atmosphere, and it&#8217;s a fun event.&#8221;</p><style>
