Some Nanticoke students face new discipline policy, metal detector, clear-bag rule

<p>As the head coach of a cross-town college football rival, Frank Sheptock spent 18 years trying to beat the King&#8217;s College Monarchs.</p><p>On Thursday, he officially joined them.</p><p>The Monarchs greeted former Wilkes University head coach Sheptock to their fray by posting a greeting on the King&#8217;s football twitter account Thursday morning. It read:</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;d like to officially announce the addition of Coach Frank Sheptock to the King&#8217;s College coaching staff. Welcome to #KingsBarre Coach!&#8221;</p><p>Underneath those words is a picture of Sheptock wearing a grayish polo shirt emblazoned with the new King&#8217;s Monarch logo superimposed next to the words &#8220;Welcome Frank Sheptock Assistant Football Coach.&#8221;</p><p>Sheptock, who spent a season as a defensive coach for Division 2 Bloomsburg in 2015 after leaving Wilkes, will join the staff of Monarchs coach Jeff Knarr &#8212; reportedly in a similar role as an assistant on the defensive side of the ball.</p><p>During his last season working in college football, Sheptock was a defensive line coach and worked with some areas of Bloomsburg&#8217;s special teams. The Huskies led the PSAC Eastern Division in scoring defense, rushing defense and total defense during Sheptock&#8217;s tenure as an assistant coach in 2015.</p><p>Then Sheptock headed to the high school level, and went 27-11 while succeeding the late George Curry as Berwick&#8217;s head coach during the past three seasons. Sheptock&#8217;s Berwick teams reached the District 2 Class 4A title game twice, before finishing in the district semifinals this past season.</p><p>He resigned from that job, as well as the athletic director&#8217;s job he held for five years at Berwick, on March 3 &#8212; but the resignation won&#8217;t be officially accepted by the Berwick Area school board until its next meeting, on Monday.</p><p>In the meantime, it appears Sheptock is settling into his new role at King&#8217;s in time to begin spring football practice.</p><p>Having Sheptock on the King&#8217;s sideline should be a welcome sight to the Monarch and Knarr.</p><p>During his run at Wilkes, which lasted from 1996 to 2013, Sheptock guided Wilkes to a 13-5 record in Mayor&#8217;s Cup battles between rivals King&#8217;s and Wilkes &#8212; including a 3-1 mark against Knarr&#8217;s King&#8217;s teams.</p><p>Overall, Sheptock compiled a 107-81 record at Wilkes while becoming the winningest head football coach in Colonels history. He led Wilkes to two NCAA Division III tournament appearances, the Middle Atlantic Conference title in 2006 and to seven ECAC tournament berths.</p><p>His background is built on defense.</p><p>Sheptock was a three-time Division 3 All-American at Bloomsburg while spearheading a PSAC overall championship and run to the national semifinals in 1985.</p><p>As a hard-hitting linebacker, Sheptock set Bloomsburg records with 23 tackles in a game and with 537 career tackles, records that still stand. Immediately after college, he went to NFL training camp before being cut by the Miami Dolphins. Sheptock was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007, 10 years after being inducted into the Bloomsburg Hall of Fame.</p><style>
