<p>LEHMAN TWP. &#8212; Sean Luzzi and Alana Jacaruso ran to easy victories in the Wyoming Valley Striders 39th annual Winter&#8217;s End (4.5 mile) Run on St. Patrick&#8217;s Day at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>Sunday&#8217;s race was the first leg of the Striders&#8217; new Vince Wojnar Memorial Triple Crown. The second leg will be the 43rd annual Cherry Blossom 5 Mile Foot Race in Kirby Park at 10 a.m. on May 5. The final leg will be the sixth annual 20K Run at Lehigh Gorge State Park in White Haven at 9 a.m. on Nov. 10.</p><p>Luzzi, 22, of Dallas and formerly from Bethpage, N.Y., led a field of over 150 runners, finishing with an impressive time of 22 minutes, 53 seconds. His time marked the first time in many years that anyone came even close to challenging the male course record &#8212; 22:44 &#8212; set by Randy Haas, an Adidas-sponsored pro in 1987.</p><p>Robert Moulton, 26, of Wilkes-Barre, who is the head cross country and track coach at Crestwood, finished second in 24:24. Mickey Moorhead, 25, of Wilkes- Barre, who ran for Coughlin and Drexel University, finished third in 26:03.</p><p>&#8220;I ran as hard as I could right from the start,&#8221; said Luzzi, who ran for Misericordia. &#8220;It was OK on the way out. But it was a little windy on the way back. And I tried to run the hills really hard.&#8221;</p><p>Luzzi won the Valley&#8217;s Fastest Man series (three 1-mile races) last year and the Old Fort 5 Miler in Forty Fort on Memorial Day. He won the Run for the Cookies 10K in Berwick last month.</p><p>Like Luzzi, Jacaruso &#8212; who won top female honors with a fifth-place overall finish in 27:01 &#8212; won the Old Fort 5 Miler last year. And she won top honors in the Run for the Cookies last month.</p><p>&#8220;It went really well,&#8221; said Jacaruso, 23, of West Chester, &#8220;I was worried about the hills. But I think that running in the Run for the Cookies helped me with the hills. I passed a few guys just after the turnaround. At that point I could see there were no other female runners near me.&#8221;</p><p>Amy Rome, 52, of Dallas, finished second in 31:24.
