County council to decide on hearing request for proposed Plains Twp. project

<p>SALEM TWP. &#8212; Unit 2 at the Susquehanna nuclear plant near Berwick was disconnected from the electrical grid Saturday to begin a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage, a press release says.</p><p>Refueling outages occur every two years at each unit to ensure each of them run safely and efficiently, and they also provide a boost to the local economy. During this outage, approximately 1,800 supplemental workers are being brought in to perform about 10,000 maintenance tasks, says a release from plant owner Talen Energy.</p><p>During the Unit 2 outage, the Unit 1 reactor will remain in operation.</p><style>
