Kaufer announces $1.2M in local grantsState Rep. Aaron Kaufer announced that $1.2 million in grants will be distributed to three boroughs in the 120th Legislative District to improve transportation and pedestrian mobility.The funding was secured through the Multi-modal Transportation Fund, which provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to residents.The following boroughs in Kaufer&#8217;s district were awarded grant funding:&#8226; Forty Fort Borough was awarded $600,000 for a pedestrian/bike trail to connect with the existing levee trail that ends on Church Street in Kingston to the Luzerne County Levee Trail adjacent to River Street in Forty Fort.&#8226; Luzerne Borough was awarded $100,000 to start a plan to improve its sidewalks and streetscape. Under the project, 26,900 square-feet of sidewalk pavers, 14 crosswalks, 40 directional signs, 60 street lamps and 40 trees will be installed in the area of Main and Turner streets.&#8226; Swoyersville Borough will receive $500,000 to mill and repave 13 streets that need refurbishment. In addition, Americans with Disability Act-compliant curb ramps will be installed and crosswalk markings reapplied after paving.Other state grants are headed to:&#8226; Edwardsville Borough: $150,000 for DPW Garage.&#8226; Edwardsville Borough: $50,000 for a Mural Revitalization Project.&#8226; Exeter Borough: $75,000 for the Schooley-Wyoming Avenue Improvement Project.&#8226; Exeter Township; $60,000 for township equipment.&#8226; Forty Fort Borough: $102,084 for West Side Council of Governments Grant.&#8226; Forty Fort Borough: $50,000 for the Rutter Avenue Gateway project.&#8226; Jackson Township: $50,000 for a backhoe loader.&#8226; Kingston: $300,000 for the Recreation Center Improvement Project.&#8226; Kingston Township: $200,000 for Center Street Park Phase II.&#8226; Luzerne Borough: $50,000 for the LSA vision plan.&#8226; Pringle Borough: $136,560 for West Side Mutual Aid Equipment.&#8226; Pringle Borough: $75,000 for borough building improvements.&#8226; West Pittston Borough: $50,000 for Department of Public Works Building Renovations.&#8226; West Wyoming Borough: $50,000 for West Wyoming Firehouse Addition and Rehabilitation Project.$2.1M in grants awardedin Rep. Mullery&#8217;s districtNEWPORT TWP. &#8212; More than $2.1 million in state grants have been awarded to fund 13 projects in Rep. Gerald Mullery&#8217;s 119th Legislative District.&#8226; A $500,000 grant was awarded to the Earth Conservancy to construct the Loomis Bank Access Road in Hanover Township. The new road will be two lanes with curb and gutter, and tie directly into the second roundabout of the South Valley Parkway.Additional grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the Local Share Account which is funded from casino revenue:&#8226; Slocum Township will use its $350,000 grant to build a 4,320 square-foot fire station with a four-bay garage for the Slocum Township Volunteer Fire Co. that is expected to be completed by July 2021.&#8226; West Hazleton will receive $225,000 for replacing a deteriorated bridge over Black Creek along Jaycee Drive that is vital to Valmont Industrial Park.&#8226; A $150,000 grant will allow Rice Township to purchase a new backhoe to replace a 1992 backhoe.&#8226; Plymouth Borough will use its $150,000 grant to purchase vehicles. Borough Secretary Holly Speece said the money will also help update police cruisers with all of the newest equipment.&#8226; $140,000 for Sugar Notch to purchase a building at 892 Main St. that will become the new municipal/police building, replacing its current facility that is over 100 years old.&#8226; Wright Township will use its $140,000 grant to purchase a backhoe/loader to replace its 12-year-old backhoe/loader that needs expensive repairs.&#8226; A separate $100,000 grant to Wright Township will help to purchase and install lights this summer at the Mountaintop Area Little League complex.&#8226; A $100,000 grant will allow Dennison Township to conduct drainage and asphalt repairs on roads throughout the township, including repairing the intersection of Walnut Street and 4th Street with inlet boxes, drainage and pavement and curb restoration.&#8226; Warrior Run, $100,000 to purchase two trucks that will replace 1993 vehicles which are experiencing costly mechanical issues.&#8226; Nuangola will receive a $63,833 grant to build a new pole barn.&#8226; Larksville will receive a $49,200 grant to purchase a new police cruiser.&#8226; White Haven Borough will get $37,116 to buy a new police vehicle.Sen. Blake announces$775K for two projectsSen. John Blake, D-Archbald, has announced state grants for two projects in Luzerne County.&#8226; Pittston Township received $624,484 for the removal and reconstruction of severely deteriorated areas of Enterprise Way.&#8226; Dupont Borough is getting $151,236 for the replacement and expansion of Collins Creek Bridge on Walnut Street.<style>
