Wilkes-Barre loses revenue as it considers what to do on higher recycling fee

<p>Kari Melberger had five RBI and Nicole Selinskie knocked in two more as Wyoming Area defeated Nanticoke Area 10-4 Monday in the Wyoming Valley Conference softball opener for both teams.</p><p>Jessica Skladzien picked up the win in relief. Wyoming Area trailed 3-2 before scoring six times in the fifth inning.</p><p>Katie King had two RBI for Nanticoke Area.</p><p><strong>Wyoming Seminary 11, Meyers 1 (5 inn.)</strong></p><p>Aubrey Mytych was 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored as Seminary ended the game in five innings.</p><p>Delaney Romanchick added two RBI and was the winning pitcher, striking out eight in four innings. Emma Bean had a triple and Akira Kopec doubled.</p><p><strong>Hazleton Area 4, Tunkhannock 3</strong></p><p>Hazleton Area used consecutive one-out singles in the bottom of the seventh by Olivia Wolk, Gianna Gombeda and Madison Mizenko to rally for a victory.</p><p>Marissa Trivelpiece also singled in the inning as the Cougars scored three times. Wolk homered in the fourth for the other run.</p><p>Faith Jones knocked in two runs for Tunkhannock. Jena Simmons also had an RBI as the Tigers took a 3-0 lead after two innings.</p><p><strong>Holy Redeemer 10, Lake-Lehman 0 (5 inn.)</strong></p><p>The Royals opened defense of their WVC Division 3 championship with a shutout of Lake-Lehman.</p><p>McKenna Dolan was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Lynzie Skoronski was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Pitcher Liz Mendrzycki threw a complete game, allowing three hits and striking out four.</p><p>Krista Scoblick had two hits for Lehman.</p><p><strong>Pittston Area 13, Wyoming Valley West 2 (6 inn.)</strong></p><p>Pittston Area had six triple and used an eight-run fifth inning to pull away for a victory.</p><p>Alexa McHugh led the Patriots with a homer, double and three RBI. Morgan Mesaris had a triple and two RBI. Tori Para had a pair of triples.</p><p>McHugh pitched four innings to get the victory.</p><p>Aubrey Dusler had an RBI and Samantha Pepe added a double for Wyoming Valley West.</p><p><strong>Northwest 15, GAR 0 (3 inn.) </strong></p><p>Nicole Cragle threw a three-inning no-hitter and was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBI.</p><p>Amanda Cheslaw was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
