Freshman Miranda Bohn just missed posting the first no-hit game of her college career with the Misericordia softball team in a five-inning 12-0 victory over FDU-Florham last Sunday in Dallas. She was first credited with the no-no but a later scoring change earned her a one-hit victory.&#8220;Miranda pitched a great game and took charge on the mound,&#8221; Cougars coach Lindsay Freitag said. &#8220;I loved her composure. Tough situations didn&#8217;t impact her and she kept going after their hitters.&#8221;Bohn, a Nanticoke Area graduate, is 8-2 with a save in 12 games and nine starts. She has three shutouts and sports a 2.20 ERA. In 63.2 innings, she&#8217;s given up 65 hits and 28 runs, 20 earned, with just two walks and 38 strikeouts. When she isn&#8217;t pitching, she plays first base and is hitting .357 (25-for-70) with four doubles, four runs scored and eight RBI.&#8220;Miranda has transitioned really well to the college level,&#8221; Freitag said. &#8220;She has stepped in and made an immediate impact to our team both pitching and hitting, which can be hard for some first year student-athletes. The team has a lot of confidence playing behind her. I&#8217;m so proud of her and all the work she has put in.&#8221;The Cougars, who are 17-7 overall and 6-0 in MAC Freedom play after the FDU-Florham victory, also get solid play from another freshman from Nanticoke, Megan Murphy, who is hitting .333 and junior Taylor Baloga, a Pittston Area grad, who is hitting .286 and is 2-1 in three starts.Dante Biasi (Penn State) The 6-foot redshirt sophomore continues to pitch well as a weekend starter for the baseball team. The Hazleton Area grad picked up a hard-luck loss in a 1-0 loss to Purdue, working six innings and giving up seven hits and an earned run with two walks and six strikeouts.On March 15, Biasi had a career-high 13 strikeouts in a 3-1 victory over UMass-Lowell and came back with 12 strikeouts in a 5-1 loss to Minnesota on March 23. Four of the runs off him were unearned. He&#8217;s 2-3 in seven starts with a 2.03 ERA and a team-high 57 strikeouts.Lindsey Oremus (St. Joseph&#8217;s) The senior kicked off the outdoor season with the women&#8217;s track team by finishing first out of 19 entrants in the 3,000-meter run at the Rider 5-way meet last Saturday in Lawrenceville, N.J. Her time was 10:33.31. The Dallas grad also finished fifth out of 23 in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:51.03.Oremus is gearing up to compete in the 5,000-meter run. She finished 10th with a personal best time of 17:33.15 at the Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Championships last year. Teammate Nathaniela Bourdeau, a Coughlin grad, finished second in the 400 meter dash in 57.26 at the Rider meet.Tyler Yankosky (Millersville) The 6-foot-6 junior right-hander is a key man out of the bullpen for the baseball team, the Marauders 20-7 overall and 7-1 in PSAC East play after sweeping four games against Shippensburg last weekend. The Wyoming Valley West grad picked up his first victory of the season on Friday, working four innings without giving up a hit or a run with a walk and five strikeouts.Yankosky also has two saves in 10 relief appearances. In 19.2 innings, he&#8217;s given up 11 hits and three runs, two earned, with 12 walks and 29 strikeouts.Kyle OFier (Bloomsburg) The sophomore is hitting .243 and has five home runs to help the baseball team post a 14-7 record and a 4-4 mark in PSAC East Play after winning three of four league games against Kutztown last weekend. The Pittston Area grad has 17 hits in 47 at-bats with three doubles to go along with his home runs, 15 runs scored and 16 RBI.Freshman Jared Marshman, a Berwick grad, has a 2-0 record and a save in four games and two starts and junior Ed Herbener, an MMI Prep grad, is 0-1.Paige Bonin (Robert Morris) The freshman thrower kicked off the season with the women&#8217;s outdoor track team by finishing second to a junior in the javelin throw at the West Virginia Open on March 23 in Morgantown, W.Va. The Hazleton Area grad had a toss of 102 feet, 6 inches which was three inches ahead of the third-place finisher.Bonin fouled on her first two attempts and then posted her runner-up effort on her final toss of the day.Brooke Stout (Washington &amp; Jefferson) The freshman is doing most of the catching for the softball team, the Presidents 7-11 after an 8-3 victory over La Roche on March 22. The Berwick grad had two hits, a run scored and a run batted in. On the season, she&#8217;s hitting .362 (17-for-47) with three doubles, three runs scored and seven RBI.Behind the plate, Stout has handled 31 chances without an error. She also serves as the designated hitter and pinch-hitting when she isn&#8217;t catching.Savanna Robinson (Keystone) The junior was named Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday after another solid week with the women&#8217;s lacrosse team. It was her second straight honor. The Coughlin grad has 16 goals and five assists for 21 points along with a team-high 25 draw controls.She had three goals in a 16-0 league victory over Centenary last Saturday. Four other Coughlin grads are helping the 4-3 Giants. Senior Alex Smith has 13 goals, Amy Llewellyn has seven goals, her sister April has three goals and four assists and Megan Novak has 14 ground balls and four caused turnovers.Morgan Klosko (Lycoming) The freshman is the team&#8217;s designated hitter and is hitting .318 (14-for-44) for the softball team, the Warriors 10-6 overall and 1-3 in MAC Commonwealth play after dropping a league doubleheader to Arcadia last Saturday in Glenside. The Wyoming Valley West grad has two doubles, three runs scored and is tied for second on the team with 11 RBI.Klosko opened her collegiate career by getting two hits, scoring two runs and knocking in three runs in a 13-1 victory over Morrisville on March 11.Curt Yenchik (Neumann) The 5-foot-11 senior is seeing action as a designated hitter for the baseball team, the Knights 9-10 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic East Conference play after a 6-1 non-league victory over Susquehanna last Thursday. The Crestwood grad had two hits, scored a run and had three RBI.On the season, Yenchik is batting .268 (15-for-56) with three doubles, a home run, seven runs scored and a team-high 16 RBI.Danielle Krispin (Cedar Crest) The sophomore is seeing action in the outfield and behind the plate for the softball team, the Falcons 8-11 overall and 4-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference games after beating Notre Dame (Md.) 11-1 and 7-2 in a league doubleheader last Saturday.The Tunkhannock grad has started 12 games and is hitting .267 (8-for-30), with a double, triple, eight runs scored and three RBI. She&#8217;s 7-for-7 in stolen bases and has handled 37 chances in the field without an error.<style>
