Jury finds Hanover Township man not guilty in rape case

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; City police arrested a man during the inspection and subsequent eviction of tenants at a 14-unit apartment building on South Grant Street on Wednesday.</p><p>Police assisting city code enforcement officers at 390 S. Grant St., the former Dana Street School, detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from an apartment allegedly occupied by Travis Sergio Hamlett.</p><p>When Hamlett opened the door and spotted officers, he immediately slammed it shut and ran to a bedroom, police said.</p><p>Police were aware Hamlett was wanted by the state Office of Attorney General on charges he sold cocaine several times during March.</p><p>Officers heard noises through the partially opened door, which did not latch when Hamlett slammed it. He allegedly ignored commands prompting officers to enter the apartment due to the odor of marijuana.</p><p>Police said they found a large amount of cash and marijuana and a firearm on a dresser, court records say.</p><p>Court records say police later obtained a search warrant that led to the discovery of two sealed metal cans of marijuana, a vacuum-sealed bag of marijuana, 140 rounds of .380 cal ammunition, a marijuana grinder, more than $5,500 cash, a 9-mm handgun, a digital scale and packaging materials.</p><p>Hamlett was in possession of nearly 90 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine discovered during a strip search, court records say.</p><p>Tenants were evicted by the code enforcement office. A placard posted on doors stated the eviction was due to &#8220;No inspections.&#8221;</p><p>An ordinance requires landlords to register their proprieties and to have a city-coordinated inspection every time a new tenant moves into a rental unit.</p><p>Hamlett was charged with five counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, three counts of criminal use of communication facility, and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.</p><p>Hamlett was arraigned by District Judge Joseph Spagnuolo Jr. in Plains Township and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $300,000 total bail.</p><style>
