<p>The Misericordia University Speech-Language Pathology Department and the university&#8217;s chapter of the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association will present, &#8220;When I Stutter,&#8221; a documentary revealing the stories of 19 people who stutter and the humanity that exists within the often-mysterious condition. The free screening is on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in the Huntzinger and Alden Trust Rooms 218-219 of Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall.</p><p>A panel discussion will follow featuring board certified fluency specialists Glen Tellis, Ph.D., C.C.C.-S.L.P., department chair and professor of speech-language pathology, and Kathleen Scaler Scott, Ph.D., C.C.C.-S.L.P., associate professor of speech-language pathology.</p><p>Directed and produced by John Gomez, the film helps shed light and provide information through 19 people who share stories of how stuttering has impacted their lives. There are &#8220;educational vignettes&#8221; interspersed throughout to help illuminate some of the mysteries surrounding stuttering. Among the highlights, the film follows the journey of a young man through stuttering therapy and details the relationship that he forms with the speech pathologist and the heartwarming progress that he makes.</p><p>&#8220;When I Stutter&#8221; was named &#8220;Best Documentary Feature&#8221; at the Lisbon International Film Festival, and earned the &#8220;Supporter of People with Fluency Disorders Award&#8221; from the International Fluency Association.</p><p>&#8220;In making &#8216;When I Stutter,&#8217; my goal was to create a film experience that explores the full impact that stuttering can have on one&#8217;s life,&#8221; said Gomez. &#8220;The honesty and candor with which the interviewees express themselves reveals a side of stuttering that is not often discussed in the media. Understanding the deep emotional impact that stuttering can have gives the viewer a rare opportunity to gain understanding and insight into a communication disorder that is shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding.&#8221;</p><style>
