<p>Now that Daniel Hughes has been promoted to Luzerne County coroner, the county is seeking someone to fill his prior job as chief deputy coroner at a pay range of $42,000 to $48,000 annually.</p><p>According to the online advertisement:</p><p>Resumes are due April 17.</p><p>The chief deputy must be on call at all times, supervise deputy corners and be capable of performing the coroner duties, including death investigations. Applicants must reside in the county or within a 25-minute drive to the county&#8217;s Wyoming Valley population center.</p><p>While a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted, the county is seeking applicants with a bachelor&#8217;s degree, at least six years of experience in a coroner&#8217;s office and direct involvement in the investigation of at least 50 suspicious deaths that had a final ruling of homicide or suicide.</p><p>More details on this opening and others are posted on the career opportunities section at <a href="https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/luzernecounty?page=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">www.luzernecounty.org</a>.</p><p><strong>Personnel changes</strong></p><p>Eighteen new county employees were hired in March while 19 left due to resignations, retirements or terminations, the county&#8217;s new monthly personnel report shows.</p><p>The workers hired in non-human service branches, along with their hourly compensation: Morgan Bell, Jeffery Cox, Esperanza Gonzalez and Jesse Ragugini, probation officers, $19.78; Mary Farah, district judge clerk typist, $13.30; Wanda Gunsser and Thomas Ramsey, deputy sheriffs, $15.36; Jessica Morgan, prothonotary clerk, $15.36; William Thompson, part-time public defender, $30; and Douglas Waymire, custodian, $12.75.</p><p>In human service departments, the new workers are: Daisy Cabral and Oscar Flores, Children and Youth caseworkers, $15.82; Lisa Calabro, Dannis Dublin and Jennifer Polemitis, Children and Youth caseworker IIs, $19.02; Caitlyn Holland, fiscal officer, $23.08; and Gayle Miles and Colleen Nearhouse, alternate senior center operator or manager, $13.91.</p><p><strong>Departures</strong></p><p>Seven employees retired during the month: custodial worker Carol Bryden, security worker Herbert Ciechoski, aging care manager Mary Diliberto, prison correctional officer Michael John, coroner William Lisman, aging clerk typist Marianne Malinosky and mental health caseworker supervisor Suzanne Strittmatter.</p><p>Another seven resigned: 911 telecommunicator Richard Eyer Jr., assessor clerk Lauren Klem, assessor field investigator Joseph Mazzola, assistant district attorney Myer Messinger, Children and Youth caseworker Alisabeth Pickett, Children and Youth clerk typist Lorraine Sokolowski and prison lieutenant Sherry Souchick.</p><p>The terminations: deputy sheriff Jennifer Dempsey and four 911 telecommunicators &#8212; Mia Butler, Tiffany Collins, Lori Knipp and Amanda Pocceschi.</p><p><strong>Promotions</strong></p><p>In addition, 17 workers advanced to new positions, which the county categorizes as &#8220;internal merit hires.&#8221;</p><p>The human service branch employees, along with their new titles and hourly compensation: Mary-Jean Baird-Stanislow and Lori Holdredge, mental health caseworker supervisors, $19.19; Colleen Boyko, aging care manager, $17.38; Cheryl Farkaly, mental health program specialist, $22.29; Ann-Marie Hirko, mental health caseworker II, $17.83; Leah Johnson, aging care manager II, $19.70; and seven Children and Youth caseworker IIs at $19.02 &#8212; Jonathan Casey, Alyssa Clocker, William D&#8217;Angelo, Tyler Gates, Mindy Jenkins, Linda Jones-Klepar and Lorenzo Singotti.</p><p>The promotions in other departments: Alyssa Conner, budget/finance policy analyst, $20.64; Gina Evangelista, domestic relations support officer, $19.78; Michael Gavin, road/bridge equipment operator, $12.47; and Hughes, coroner, $26.15.</p><p><strong>Courthouse tours</strong></p><p>Several public tours of the historic county courthouse on River Street in Wilkes-Barre have been scheduled as part of county government month in April, county Manager C. David Pedri announced.</p><p>The first tour will be at 5 p.m. Monday, April 8, starting in the courthouse rotunda. The other tours will be on April 23 and 29, with details posted on the calendar at <a href="https://www.luzernecounty.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">www.luzernecounty.org</a>.</p><p>As part of the month&#8217;s activities, Children and Youth will be collecting clothing for at-risk youth, sizes 3T through 5T. Collection boxes will be set up in county buildings.</p><style>
