‘Shazam!’ debuts with $53.5M, handing DC Comics another win

<p>HANOVER TWP. &#8212; The big development news around these parts lately has been big box businesses and online retailers setting up in big new buildings.</p><p>Dawn Davison-Monk saw opportunity in all that construction: A lot of professionals needing a home but not wanting a house. Thus a new residential development dubbed &#8220;The Villas at Hidden Acres.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;They are designed for people who do not have the desire to own and maintain a home,&#8221; said Davison-Monk, who has spent 25 years working with Twin City Builders, a company founded by her father that largely dealt in commercial work.</p><p>&#8220;These people don&#8217;t want to spend their Saturdays cutting grass, taking care of in-ground pools, updating things in their houses,&#8221; she said, &#8220;So I decided to develop an easy living community for those people.&#8221;</p><p>Davison-Monk looked at several sites before striking a deal with Earth Conservancy for 18 acres off South Main Street, a spot secluded by trees between Warrior Run Borough and Nanticoke (for local history buffs, it&#8217;s just northeast of the &#8220;Concrete City&#8221; remains).</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m the first and only licensed female contractor in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton,&#8221; Davison-Monk said, with only a hint of boasting. Her quarter-century at Twin City Builders &#8220;is what makes me capable of doing this.&#8221;</p><p>The plan calls for each building to have four units, all one story. Each unit &#8220;comes with a one-car garage, front porch, back patio, open floor plan, two bedrooms and two full baths.&#8221; All told, each offers 1,100 square feet of modern living.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re going to build 16 units this year,&#8221; she added, but there is room for 80 and the plan is &#8220;to build as many as we can rent.&#8221;</p><p>Because the land is undeveloped and treed, construction includes a 300-foot road into the development from South Main Street, and bringing in all utilities. The goal is to give the area a secluded feel among the trees.</p><p>There are no plans for major shared spaces like, say, a community pool, but Davison-Monk expects &#8220;there will be shared space at some point, possibly a community center.&#8221;</p><p>Work has already begun on the site but the official groundbreaking is set for April 10.
