<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; Three fishhooks attached to a string were surgically removed from a cat rescued from a vacant residence on East Main Street on Monday.</p><p>There may be two more cats that swallowed fish hooks and string inside 401-403 E. Main St., said Dawn Mandygral, who runs Happy Hearts &amp; Tails Safe Haven Animal Rescue.</p><p>Mandygral said she was &#8220;appalled&#8221; and &#8220;disgusted&#8221; when she found out fish hooks were embedded inside a cat she removed from the residence Tuesday morning.</p><p>She was alerted Sunday that cats were left abandoned inside the residence and possibly one cat had string emerging from its mouth. She visited the vacant house Sunday night, and returned Monday to search.</p><p>&#8220;The girl who posted on Facebook on Sunday said there was a guy fishing for cats and he was bragging about it,&#8221; Mandygral said. &#8220;I went over there and she told me there were three cats that swallowed strings.&#8221;</p><p>What Mandygral experienced next was disheartening.</p><p>&#8220;I saw the cat with string coming out of its mouth and I got it, and rushed it up to Dr. (Inayatullah) Kathio&#8217;s office. &#8220;On the way to the animal hospital, it felt like three hours getting there, the cat was screaming and kept trying to pull it out. String was down its throat.&#8221;</p><p>Mandygral said Dr. Kathio immediately examined the cat noticing fish hooks was embedded in its mouth.</p><p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t know there was a fish hook in the poor thing. I was appalled and disgusted. I don&#8217;t know who would possess to do such a thing,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Mandygral said Dr. Kathio sedated the cat and removed the fish hooks and string from the feline that survived.</p><p>She said she managed to remove 10 cats from the vacant house but has yet to find two other cats she was told had string emerging from their anuses. Cats that were removed were taken to an animal clinic on Hazle Street in Wilkes-Barre where they were examined, she said.</p><p>Wayne Harvey, humane officer for the Luzerne County SPCA, said there is an on-going investigation that may result in charges if sufficient evidence is uncovered.</p><p>There was no word on charges at press time Tuesday night.</p><style>
