<p>HANOVER TWP. &#8211; Joe Cardillo and Nadalie Solomon finished 1-2 on Sunday, winning overall male and female honors in the fourth annual Navient Ladders &amp; Laces 5K Run at the Navient student loan facility at the Hanover Industrial Estates.</p><p>Cardillo, 59, of Dunmore, crossed the finish line in 19 minutes and 36 seconds, winning top honors in his first attempt in the Navient race.</p><p>Cold temperatures and rain, however, didn&#8217;t dampen Cardillo&#8217;s spirits. &#8220;I really like this course a lot,&#8221; said Cardillo, who mostly runs in Scranton area and New York State area races. &#8220;It&#8217;s a bit hilly, but it&#8217;s rolling hills. So that&#8217;s not bad.</p><p>&#8220;I took the lead right from the start. Then I just tried to stay relaxed and stay at an even pace and stayed steady right to the finish.&#8221;</p><p>Cardillo&#8217;s steady pace was a little too much for Solomon, 38, of Mountain Top, to track down. She pulled in 37 seconds behind Cardillo, capturing top female honors.</p><p>&#8220;I started out faster than I normally do,&#8221; said Solomon, a past winner of the race. &#8220;I just tried to keep a steady pace. I had my eyes on the lead runner and kept focused on him. At one mile into the race, I tried to move up on him, but his pace was just too much.&#8221;</p><p>Like Cardillo, Solomon doesn&#8217;t mind the hills at all. &#8220;The little bit of time lost on the uphills can be easily made up for on the downhills,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Cardillo set an age group record in the Vestal 20K Run in Vestal, N.Y. last year.
