The Misericordia women&#8217;s lacrosse team made history on Saturday, winning the program&#8217;s first MAC Freedom Championship and capturing a NCAA Tournament berth with an 11-9 victory over FDU-Florham in the conference finals.Misericordia beat the Devils for the first time in five straight title game appearances.Maggie McGovern earned MVP honors for making nine saves in net. Kristen Ritter led the Cougars with three goals and eight draw controls. Lauren Weitzel contributed three goals, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.With the win, the Cougars improved to 13-5 on the season.WOMEN&#8217;S TENNIS Wilkes 5, DeSales 0&nbsp;The Colonels swept DeSales to capture their 13 straight MAC Freedom championship.The pair of Jordan Vasarkovy and Dasha Yakhnis took their match 8-1, while the pair of Francesca Varela-Seri and Laura Zielinski defeated the Bulldogs by the same score in their doubles match.The victory gives the Colonels a 15-4 overall record and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.MEN&#8217;S TENNISWilkes 5, Manhattanville 1The Colonels took home their 12th straight MAC Freedom title.Courtney Murphy shined as a singles and doubles competitor, cruising to a 8-4 doubles win with Andrew MacDonald and a 6-0, 6-1 victory in singles competition.Chris Maderitz was named the MAC Freedom Tournament MVP.With the championship victory, Wilkes improved to 14-6 on the season.BASEBALLMisericordia 10, DeSales 2The Cougars topped DeSales in the MAC Freedom Tournament to advance to the title game.Tom Jacob earned the win for the Cougars, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four over six innings. Kyle Melahn and Zach Mason combined for three innings of scoreless ball.Tyler Holzapfel and Brady Madden had three RBIs each. Holzapfel got the Cougars on the board first by launching a two-run shot over the right field fence in the second inning.With the win, Misericordia improved to 31-10 on the season. The Cougars are slated to face Manhattanville Sunday afternoon.SOFTBALLMU falls in title gameThe Cougars advanced to the MAC Freedom championship with a 3-1 win over Wilkes before losing 6-3 to Manhattanville in the finals.In the opener, the Colonels scored their lone run of the game in the top of the second inning when Britny Jumalon singled uo the middle to plate Gracen Staunton. Jumalon finished the game registering two hits in the contest.The Cougars responded, when Ciara DeLong led off the bottom of the third inning with a home run. Kiersten Pflueger plated Maddie Holub to extend Misericordia&#8217;s lead 2-1. Jessie McDonough plated Pflueger making the score 3-1.Wilkes finished the season with a 26-16 overall record, tying the school record for most wins in a season since 2008 when the Colonels went 26-14.In the second game, Manhattanville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Valiants scratched across five runs in the third inning .The Cougars threatened to score early in the contest, but clutch pitching by Manhattanville thwarted any chance.In the seventh frame, Misericordia&#8217;s bats came to life, loading the bases up for Kiersten Pflueger. Pflueger delivered a two-out single up the middle to cut the deficit 6-2.With the bases re-loaded, Misericordia scratched across another run on a Brooke Moyle single, making it 6-3. With the momentum swinging, the Valiants made a pitching change with two outs.With the go-ahead run at the plate, the Valiants were able to get a line drive out to end the game and secure the MAC Freedom Championship.<style>
