<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; For the second time the city extended the deadline to apply for home improvement grants.</p><p>Homeowners have until June 8 to submit applications for the Neighborhood Beautification Facade Improvement program that provides up to $3,000 or a 50-percent match by the city.</p><p>Approximately $100,000 is available through the program Mayor Tony George announced in March. It&#8217;s funded by a Local Share Account gaming grant from revenues the Mohegan Sun Pocono casino in Plains Township forwards to the state.</p><p>Unlike the slow response that forced the first extension by a month from April 8, the program has since picked up and so has work for contractors. As a result homeowners are having a hard time getting second and third quotes that have to be submitted with their applications.</p><p>The new deadline gives them more time to apply, George said Tuesday.</p><p>&#8220;We got over $50,000 committed,&#8221; George said.</p><p>The program has no income requirements and awards individual grants that can be used to install new exterior doors, storm windows, porches and repair or replace siding. The work must be done by contractors licensed in Wilkes-Barre to ensure city codes are met.</p><p>There are other restrictions as well. Only owner-occupied properties are eligible and it applies to designated streets:</p><p>&#8226; West River Street.</p><p>&#8226; Grove Street.</p><p>&#8226; Butler Street.</p><p>&#8226; Barney Street.</p><p>&#8226; Hanover Street.</p><p>&#8226; North Pennsylvania Avenue.</p><p>&#8226; South Meade Street.</p><p>&#8226; North Meade Street.</p><p>&#8226; Dana Street.</p><p>&#8226; Empire Street.</p><p>&#8226; Brown Street.</p><p>&#8226; South Franklin Street.</p><p>&#8226; High Street.</p><p>Applications and additional information can be downloaded from the <a href="https://www.wilkes-barre.city/sites/wilkes-barrepa/files/uploads/neighborhood_beautification_facade_program_procedures_application.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">city&#8217;s website</a> or <a class="Hyperlink SCXW185152832 BCX0" href="https://www.wilkes-barre.city/sites/wilkes-barrepa/files/uploads/neighborhood_beautification_facade_program_procedures_application.pdf" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://bit.ly/2WLlS3W</a>.
