WVW Middle School students get recognition for overcoming hurdles

Kyle Sincavage and Max Paczewski each knocked in three runs as Lake-Lehman defeated Meyers 11-1 in five innings Friday to take over first place in Division 3 of Wyoming Valley Conference baseball.The Black Knights (10-2) lead Wyoming Seminary (10-3) by a half-game. They play Holy Redeemer on Saturday and finish with Hanover Area on Monday. Seminary ends its regular season Monday against Northwest.Sincavage also had two triples.Hanover Area 7, Wyoming Seminary 6The Hawkeyes scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh.Connor Hummer, Justin Richards and Joe Rowley had RBI for Hanover Area. Hummer pitched the final inning to pick up the win.Jakson Amend had two RBI for Seminary.SOFTBALLLake-Lehman 16, Meyers 2 (5 inn.)The Black Knights scored 11 times in the third inning to move closer to a District 2 Class 4A playoff spot.Lehman (7-6 Div. 3, 9-9) will make the postseason by defeating either Dallas on Sunday or MMI Prep on Monday or by finishing in the top eight in the D2-4A standings. The Black Knights were 10th entering Friday.Krista Scoblick threw a three-hitter and was 4-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Hunter Kline was 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBI. Emily Smith homered and knocked in two runs. Andrew MacDonald and Courtney Murphy pushed Wilkes ahead 2-1 after doubles play, securing an 8-5 win at No. 1.Jonathan White was the first Colonel finisher in singles play, taking his match in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 as Wilkes held a 3-1 advantage.
