Luzerne County settles suit with inmate for $250,000

<p>SCRANTON &#8212; An owner of a logging and excavating business in Dallas was indicted by a federal grand jury last week alleging he illegally possessed 58 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition while being a drug user.</p><p>Bruce Robert Redmond, 30, of Ransom Road, Franklin Township, allegedly provided false information about his drug use on applications to purchase firearms. Redmond also possessed a firearm knowing it was reported stolen and owning an unregistered firearm, the indictment says.</p><p>U.S. Magistrate Judge Karoline Mehalchick ordered Redmond jailed until his trial after a detention hearing held at the federal courthouse in Scranton on May 8.</p><p>Redmond was initially charged by federal authorities by a criminal complaint May 1. A grand jury on May 7 indicted Redmond on seven counts to include unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of a stolen firearm and an unregistered firearm, providing false statements to purchase firearms and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.</p><p>The indictment also includes a forfeiture action seeking the seizure of 58 firearms and more than 6,600 rounds of ammunition from Redmond.</p><p>Agents with the federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed a search warrant at the logging company&#8217;s office on Market Street, Kingston, and at Redmond&#8217;s residence on April 12, a day after a dump truck owned by the business flipped on Wilson Road, Larksville, damaging the front yard of a residence. The driver of the dump truck fled the scene.</p><p>The indictment alleges Redmond is a user of methamphetamine and provided false information about his drug use on firearm purchase applications at MidKnight Tactical LLC in Sweet Valley when he attempted to purchase a .380 caliber pistol and at Bear&#8217;s Gun Room in Wyoming when he attempted to buy a .45 caliber pistol.</p><p>Redmond also possessed a 12 gauge shotgun with a barrel length less than 18 inches, the indictment alleges. </p><style>
