Legion Riders plan Rider for Honor for May 26

<p>Members and friends of the Rotary Club of Dallas gathered recently at the Appletree Terrace in Dallas to celebrate the club&#8217;s 92nd anniversary of the signing of their charter on March 19, 1927.</p><p>The highlight of the evening was the awarding of Paul Harris Fellow Awards to three members of the Back Mountain Community who exemplify Rotary&#8217;s motto of &#8220;Service Above Self&#8221; as they live their lives doing good things for others. The recipients are:</p><p>Brenda Pugh, president of the Luzerne County Fall Fair Association, was honored for her outstanding leadership and efforts to expand the use of the fairgrounds to benefit the community, and for all of her other endeavors to help many charitable organizations maximize their service and impact.</p><p>Lisa Pretko, former Rotarian, founder and editor of the Back Mountain Community News, was honored for her 15 years of publishing only &#8220;good news&#8221; in the Back Mountain and surrounding areas. Pretko has donated unlimited space in her newspaper for non-profit organizations, churches, charities, service clubs, fire departments, and others to spread the word about their mission, fundraisers and other events that benefit the community.</p><p>Joseph R. Stager, III, was honored for his heroism last summer when a catastrophic tornado struck the shopping mall in Wilkes-Barre and demolished the Barnes and Noble Book Store which he managed. Through his quick thinking and putting his employees above his own personal safety, he saved countless individuals by corralling them in the center of the store in a sturdy kiosk and literally throwing his body over them to shelter them from flying and collapsing debris.</p><style>
