<p>LEHMAN TWP. &#8212; Flubbing covers of country songs, flinging broccoli florets into the front rows, diving into a tiny tot&#8217;s plastic pool on stage, auctioning knickknacks nabbed from teacher desks, a round of musical chairs and a pop quiz on world history.</p><p>If you answered &#8220;What is the Lake-Lehman Mr. Knight pageant,&#8221; you presumably have had the odd fortune of witnessing what School District Superintendent Jim McGovern dubbed &#8220;A sort of sideways Sadie Hawkins Day.&#8221;</p><p>Seniors at Lake-Lehman Jr./Sr. High School gathered in the auditorium Friday morning for the mishmash that is a beauty/talent/game/quiz show, this year featuring 10 of the district&#8217;s most unembarrassed men vying for, yes, a tiara and the coveted title that comes complete with, well, that tiara.</p><p>They took turns being escorted red-carpet style to the stage by elegantly dress senior girls, then striking poses while being introduced by classmate emcees who clearly kept tongues firmly in cheeks. Then they did the talent-free show, which included that country song where the singers just sort of petered out a bit in the second verse, and that shallow dive into three gallons of water.</p><p>Justin Timonte opted for a faux hibachi-style cooking demonstration. &#8220;It was this or getting stuff off high shelves,&#8221; the lean and lanky senior quipped before going on stage to dice thin air on a cold griddle and toss pre-cut broccoli florets into the crowd at the front of the auditorium.</p><p>There was weightlifting of Teddy bears shoved onto each side of a yardstick, complex physics scrawled on a white board purportedly calculating how to toss a basketball across the stage with back to the portable hoop, and Abe Dabsheh&#8217;s attempt to, shall we say, steal the show</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m auctioning stuff I stole from teachers,&#8221; he freely admitted before heading into the spotlight to seek bids on a scotch-tape dispenser, a world globe &#8220;that dates back to when the teacher was four years old,&#8221; a plastic slinky and a bicycle wheel used to demonstrate things like gyroscopic effect. &#8220;It&#8217;s basically an oversized fidget spinner.&#8221;</p><p>Timonte got booed during the musical chairs competition when he basically pushed a contestant off the folding chair, while Dabsheh stood out in bright red one-piece PJs.</p><p>Then came the Q&amp;A. Asked to describe Plato&#8217;s allegory of the cave, Dabsheh took a huge swing and a miss. &#8220;Well, I went to Toys R Us and bought some Play Doh and made an allegory but it caved.&#8221;</p><p>And yet, he came in second when the judging was complete.</p><p>The winner? Probably every senior who got to spend two hours of class time on a half-day of school hooting and laughing at the whole affair.</p><p>Oh, and T.J. Meehan, part of the duet singing a pop country song while two-stepping in denim shorts, plaid shirts and Stetson-style toppers.</p><p>After being properly feted, he took the tiara off, put it around the crown of his cowboy hat, and headed off to class.</p><style>
