<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Scranton resident caught by Duryea police using a false name since she paid someone to bring her to the U.S. from Mexico in 2001 was sentenced in Luzerne County Court.</p><p>Leticia Puebla, 43, was charged by police who investigated her identity when she claimed to be Mildred Santiago as a result of a traffic stop at Main and Stephenson streets on Oct. 17.</p><p>Police stopped Federico Puebla for driving a Chevrolet pickup truck that had an inoperable brake light. During the stop, Federico Puebla told an officer he did not have a driver&#8217;s license and was instructed to call his sister, Mildred Santiago, who owned the vehicle, court records say.</p><p>When an officer processed Mildred Santiago&#8217;s name, it was learned she was wanted in Berks County for identity theft.</p><p>Police in Berks County verified for Duryea police that the real Mildred Santiago reported her identity was stolen.</p><p>Puebla later told police she paid a person to transport her across the border from Mexico in 2001, then paid someone in Mount Pocono $600 for the identity of Mildred Santiago, court records say.</p><p>Puebla pleaded guilty to identity theft and was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr. to 11 months probation.</p><style>
