McCabe, Radzwilka earn top marks at West Pittston Anthracite 4-Mile Run

Byron tops 173 mph, hits fast lap to win pole for Sunday’s Pocono 400

<p>I can&#8217;t believe Memorial Day weekend has come and gone.</p><p>For me, it was filled with some sad but then happier times.</p><p>I said goodbye to my Uncle Bob Koenen at a memorial service in Fort Myers, Fla. last Friday. As my cousin Katie said, he would have hated all the attention, but would have loved his family sharing stories and laughs over his remarkable life. He traveled the globe for business as a respected chief operation officer for international law firms but was the most down-to-earth person you&#8217;d ever meet. He&#8217;ll be missed.</p><p>I returned home to a happier celebration: the rehearsal dinner and wedding of friends Shayne McGrady and Aime Sgarlat, whose rehearsal dinner at POSH and wedding at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton couldn&#8217;t have been better.</p><p>Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the breathtaking, historic lobby at the Radisson, which was the ideal setting for such an occasion, before moving into the ballroom where we toasted the newly married couple and imbibed until the end of the evening.</p><p>&#8216;Twas truly a terrific night, and I was glad to be a part of it.</p><p>Onward to a bevy of upcoming activities this June, some of which I&#8217;m pleased to share here.</p><p>On my birthday, which is June 11, we&#8217;re going to celebrate. While we&#8217;ll celebrate me a little, we&#8217;re also going to celebrate some extraordinary people making an impact in this community at the 2019 EPIC Awards when the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce will honor Tara Mugford Wilson with the ATHENA Award, Dr. Pugazhendhi Vijayaraman as Innovator of the Year and Cathy Fields McHugh as Volunteer of the Year.</p><p>This is one of my favorite events, so I&#8217;m forgoing any birthday dinner to attend at Wyoming Seminary&#8217;s Kirby Center for the Creative Arts. If you are interested in getting tickets, visit www.wilkes-barre.org or visit the Chamber at 2 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>The following Tuesday, on June 18, the 2019 Outreach Awards are taking place at Glenmaura National Golf Club. Beginning at 5:30, Outreach &#8211; Center for Community Resources will honor the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce with a reception, thanks to their moving forth workforce development in the region.</p><p>I attended last year, and plan to once again. Simply visit www.outreachworks.org/outreach-challenge/ to reserve your tickets.</p><p>Outreach is a worthy cause as it offers programs promoting family stability and economic self-sufficiency. By building stronger families this way, stronger communities are formed.</p><p>Finally, if you&#8217;re a cat lover like me, consider the Whisker&#8217;s World Car Show on Sunday, June 30, at Dominick&#8217;s Caf&#233; in Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>From 12 through 4, just $10 will get you access to the food, 50/50 drawings, basket raffles, music and more.</p><p>As Dominick&#8217;s owner Mary Ellen Dominick told me: &#8220;The kitties really really appreciate it.&#8221;</p><p>The aforementioned are just a small sampling of the many good-natured events to attend this month.
