<p>It&#8217;s not uncommon for cars to get stuck on the highway. On Tuesday, some Luzerne County motorists found the highway stuck to their cars.</p><p>An oil and chip resurfacing project on state Route 239 near Shickshinny went badly awry this week, with the new surface liquefying and sticking to the tires of vehicles along a four-mile stretch of the road.</p><p>Motorists whose vehicles were affected by the mess are encouraged to contact PennDOT&#8217;s Luzerne County office at 570-826-2386 to file damage claims, state Department of Transportation spokesman Mike Taluto said.</p><p>The oil and chip mixture normally cures very quickly, so that it can be possible for vehicles to use the road again within minutes, PennDOT spokesman James May explained.</p><p>&#8220;For some reason, about 24 hours later it turned into a runny, soupy mess,&#8221; May said, adding that PennDOT officials do not believe rainy weather was a factor.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve never seen this before. Other areas treated were fine,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Crews went back and scraped the oil and chip mixture from that stretch of road, May said, and have sent a sample of the affected batch to a lab in Harrisburg for testing. They will wait until the results are known before resuming work on that stretch of road, he said.</p><style>
