Small School win completes sweep for Lackawanna League

<p>MOOSIC &#8211; The Wyoming Valley Conference was unable to match up with the number of arms the Lackawanna League had available in the Big School game of Sunday&#8217;s seventh annual Field of Dreams baseball event.</p><p>The first of those arms that the Lackawanna League paraded to the PNC Field mound also brought his bat.</p><p>Winning pitcher Ryan Deom, a Lehigh University commit from North Pocono, drove in four runs to lead the Lackawanna to an 8-3 victory in the opener of the doubleheader.</p><p>Deom opened the game with two scoreless innings, striking out four while only allowing an infield single. He doubled in the game&#8217;s first two runs to get a four-run second inning going, then singled in the last two of a three-run fifth to break open what had become a 4-3 game.</p><p>&#8220;He&#8217;s definitely a Division I talent kid,&#8221; said Crestwood&#8217;s Sean Foley, who coached the WVC. &#8220;He&#8217;s got an above-average fastball and he&#8217;s got good command of his breaking ball and we saw that today.</p><p>&#8220;And, he&#8217;s not shy with the bat. He&#8217;s the one who blasted the ball into the left-center gap.&#8221;</p><p>While the Lackawanna League turned to seven pitchers who did not yield an earned run, the WVC was trying to get through the seven-inning, senior all-star game with just three.</p><p>Wyoming Area&#8217;s Toby Hallman started and struck out all three batters in the bottom of the first. He got three more strikeouts in the second, but an error to start the inning helped contribute to three unearned runs.</p><p>&#8220;We had one bad inning there we walked a few guys and they got a key hit and that kind of put them ahead,&#8221; Foley said.</p><p>Wyoming Valley West&#8217;s Nate Baranski followed and held the Lackawanna scoreless for two innings while the WVC closed within 4-3.</p><p>Baranski got the first two outs in the fifth before North Pocono&#8217;s Jake Mastillo delivered an inside-the-park homer to right field. An error on the potential, inning-ending groundball led to two more runs scoring.</p><p>The WVC offense consisted of singles from six different players.</p><p>Crestwood&#8217;s Mike Palmiero had the biggest hit, with a single in the top of the third for the first two runs, scoring courtesy runner Nick Reposa from Tunkhannock and Tyler O&#8217;Kane from Wyoming Valley West after they executed a double steal.</p><p>&#8220;I saw a lot of breaking balls,&#8221; Palmiero said. &#8220;I was able to make contact with one and it stayed fair.&#8221;</p><p>Tunkhannock&#8217;s Tyler Faux singled in a run in the fifth to make it a one-run game.</p><p>&#8220;We started chipping away,&#8221; Foley said.</p><style>
