<p>Due to popular demand, amazing raptors will be back at the Dietrich Theater. On Saturday, July 6 at 11 a.m., Bill Streeter, executive director of the Delaware Valley Raptor Center, will present Close Encounters with Birds of Prey. This free program, sponsored by the Overlook Estate Foundation, is a special pre-event two weeks before River Day on Saturday, July 20, at Riverside Park.</p><p>The experience of seeing these raptors up close instills a greater respect and appreciation for these magnificent birds. Seeing a peregrine falcon, or perhaps a saw-whet owl, inspires awe and a sense of responsibility to keep them flourishing.</p><p>Using six live raptors, Streeter will introduce the audience to the fascinating world of these birds of prey. The audience will experience the majesty of hawks, falcons, and owls up close, while gaining an understanding of a variety of ecological concepts. These are all birds that have been brought to the center with injuries. Most birds are treated and returned to the wild, but some must remain in captivity. It is these injured birds that become an important element in the educational programs of the Delaware Valley Raptor Center. New this year, Streeter will bring in a rescued immature bald eagle.</p><p>Streeter has over 35 years of experience as a raptor rehabilitator, falconer, and educator. He has a B.A. in Biology and an M.S. in Zoology and has completed Tufts University Veterinary School&#8217;s Leadership Program in Wildlife Medicine and Rehabilitation.</p><p>The Delaware Valley Raptor Center has been promoting conservation of raptors (hawks, falcons, owls, eagles and vultures) since it opened in 1987. Their programs showcasing their birds have captivated audiences in schools, libraries, festivals, and many other venues.</p><p>When Streeter presented his special program in past years the Dietrich Theater had standing room only. Free tickets for this event at the Dietrich Theater may be reserved by calling 570-996-1500. They will be available at the door as long as they last.</p><style>
