Keystone State Games: New format for field hockey tournament

WHAT: The 38th annual Keystone State Games Festival of Sports is a multi-sport competition, modeled after the Olympic Games.WHEN: July 25-29 and August 1-4.WHERE: Multiple sites around Luzerne County.SPORTS: Archery, badminton, baseball, bocce, bowling, cross fit, cycling, darts, disc golf, fencing, field hockey, golf, karate, pickle ball, powerlifting, shooting, swimming (including separate masters and synchronized divisions), table tennis, taekwondo (including separate black belt division), tennis, track and field, Wiffle ball and wrestling.ELSEWHERE: The bulk of the Keystone Games are based around one central location in the two upcoming weekends. There are other events, however, sprinkled throughout the calendar and around the state. Field hockey conducts an indoor tournament each December that draws nearly 100 teams and 1000 players. Nearly 3,000 track and field athletes participated in June events, starting with one at Widener University in Chester, to try to qualify for AAU Junior Olympics. An ice hockey tournament will be held July 2-4 at the York Ice Arena. THE FIELD: Between 3,000 and 3,500 participants are expected in the local portion of the competition, bringing about 7,000 visitors to the Luzerne County sites.HEADQUARTERS: The Woodlands Inn and Resort, Rt. 315, Plains Twp.
